The top 5 Renaissance films (Mermaid, BatB, Aladdin, TLK, Mulan) have their own inbuilt fanbases around the world (unlike Dumbo). Also, for all the handwringing over Aladdin's date, it was always much better than Dumbo's release date. Not only was Dumbo sandwiched between two Marvel juggernauts but it's also sandwiched between two critical/potential BO smashes in Us and Shazam! And no summer days for legs either. The weak reviews were the last straw.

Bolded parts are Disney's deliberate decisions. I was a kid who was the perfect TG during the zenith of the Renaissance Era. In the 90's, Disney was generating far more Aladdin content and media than for BatB (arguably the best Disney spin-off animated series, sidescroller game, VG games, 2 DTV sequels). Then 9/11 happened. And Aladdin merch/content reduced in number. That's when I guess Disney realised they needed to highlight BatB too (seeing how it was the only animated BP nominee after all). This also coincided with Belle's rising prominence in marketing thanks to the early 00's then fledgling but instantly popular Disney Princess brand. So it made sense to better position her franchise.

To avoid scratch marks from Cheetah I think it had been revealed at Comic Con that Diana would be donning armor of some sort. It wasn't confirmed to be the Golden Eagle one though. Hopefully there is a more Greco-hairdo featured as well, similar to these designs by Cliff Chiang and Tony Aros respectively. Those curls and ringlets would be right at home in the 80s. And I think Gal could pull off the look. Grace Randolph had tweeted a spoiler about Cheetah this week. Dunno how legit, but found it interesting.

Shazam! | April 5, 2019 | 21st Most Profitable Film of 2019

Shazam screams America what now? Even the pop-culture references shown in the trailers (Game of Thrones, other DC superheroes) are pretty universal and well-known. It doesn't seem to be like GOTG humour that depended far more on 70's/80s American references that may not have translated all that well OS (one of the reasons why I think the GOTG films are softer internationally than many of their MCU counterparts). -

Apparently it coincides with the time the first preview screenings are done. If true, nicely done WB. -
Shazam! | April 5, 2019 | 21st Most Profitable Film of 2019

The trailers have barely shown anything the early reactions are raving about (the emotional family dynamics, the scares, the stakes, the other children etc.) I appreciate not giving away the entire movie but I feel in this case it is the other extreme and not enough? Regardless of the general whining over Aquaman's perceived lack of marketing, I thought its two trailers were perfect to drum up excitement for the film. Shazam trailers OTOH are telegraphing an Ant-Man-esque smaller scope. They are fun and will get the fans to attend, but GA is now heading to theatres only to watch something truly special. With this being sandwiched between CM and Endgame, I feel like the marketing should be more aggressive. WOM can only get so far in a crowded market. The opening should be impressive too. Maybe it won't matter in the end as it will make profit due to the smaller budget (and maybe that's the reason for WB's smaller marketing budget too). But feel like this has potential to be really big. -
DCEU was never an official name to begin with. But a connected universe does exist with even Aquaman and what looks like it from Shazam's trailers, continued references to Justice League and previous films and characters. Also, how is "The Suicide Squad" a reboot if Margot Robbie and possibly Viola Davis are returning?
