  1. I'll admit to not expecting Garfield to underwhelm like this. One, coz the family audience has been starved since KFP4 with IF being the only option that came out just a weekend prior. Secondly coz the IP is a merchandise juggernaut and its popularity had grown since the films from the 2000s. Lastly, I thought putting Pratt in a family friendly franchise was a foolproof formula. I was very wrong with the last one especially and the theory that he just smartly aligned himself with multiple beloved IPs and isn't adding much to the BO draw by his own involvement is truer than I gave it credit for. But good for him signing onto so many lucrative IPs. It's why Powell shouldn't be running his mouth regarding passing over Jurassic and not wanting to do MCU. Dude gets one successful romcom with an equally promising co-lead and he thinks the opportunities will always be limitless. When the only franchise he has signed up for is... Twisters. I guess Top Gun too but he's like the fourth or fifth lead there at best. I don't know what his career plan is. He's already slightly older than when Pratt broke out with Guardians and was already filming Jurassic World.
  2. Eilish blew up thanks to... believe it or not, SoundCloud and YouTube. Rodrigo was a Disney Channel (High School Musical remake) star whose first pop song was a breakout hit. It then translated to the success of her debut album. So yeah, not "heard it on the radio" career starts for either.
  3. Count me in as one of the folks who thought the thread title was an incredibly sassy take on Furiosa and the tabby struggling through trash numbers to make it to #1
  4. It seems weak? For instance, just 4 episodes of Bridgerton Season 3 got 45 million+ views in just a week! Even the Brooke Shields movie seems to be beating Madame Web's ass.
  5. This year is Disney just unleashing all its biggest IPs to remind ppl who keeps the lights on at theatres
  6. Turning Red was greenlit WAY BACK in 2018. I meant now when Iger and co. have somewhat been misled to believe the "Woke is Broke" culture warriors.
  7. Turning Red gets shoved to streaming, which affects interest for Elemental as well, even though it recovers at the BO, especially OS, and later on Disney+ But apparently these movies aren't "relatable enough"? Docter seems to be influenced by GriftTube
  8. What's with the Twisters obsession? I can see it having good holds because of minors buying tickets to sneak into D&W instead but that's about it. It's not really screaming impressive opening. Fortunately, I think Bad Boys, Quiet Place, IO2 and DM4 will be hits before Deadpool arrives.
  9. Can we just agree that Hollywood messed up the summer schedule even beyond the impact of the strikes?* Audiences didn't have a problem heading to theaters multiple times in March. *Though at this point, if Deadpool had been the May opener, Fall Guy (even if it had stuck to its original date) and Furiosa would have done even worse
  10. Not straight men under 30 having to relate to characters who aren't them (I'd think a pregnant woman's experience would actually be very relevant for a straight guy under 30 looking to start a family but hey, what do I know?)
  11. Ya'll will make all kinds of excuses except point out the obvious elephant in the room that many ppl brought up as soon as Furiosa was announced. It was a losing battle as soon as it wasn't Charlize. No offense to Anya Taylor-Joy, but honestly fuck ageism and sexism. This is basically the Solo spin-off without Harrison Ford that no one wanted.
  12. Levy is a Jon Watts. Incapable of affecting an MCU movie's quality in any discernible way. The script and star chemistry will be doing all the heavy lifting.
  13. It can't be shade to Marsden and co. if Fox never let them shine. The Fox X-Men films have been Wolverine and Friends trilogy, Wolverine minus Friends trilogy, and Young Eric & Charles yaoi romance quartet
  14. That plotline SLAPS. Quickly moved up to one of my most anticipated of the year.
  15. Ppl were saying the same about Dune for decades and now look at it. Mad Max is much more accessible and action-oriented than Dune so it can break out. An origin story for Furiosa without the actress whose performance made the character popular isn't the best choice for expanding the fanbase though.
  16. Without Charlize, ppl didn't really want this if it wasn't going to be Fury Road great at the least. All things considered, the numbers are fine As Cmaster said, the real shocker is Garfield. Did IF hurt it that bad? Considering IF itself has a mid performance instead of breaking out, looks like families checked out until IO2
  17. The number of "I hope Mother Wanda is in Deadpool and Wolverine" tweets alone prove that the 'MCU is a hindrance' argument is bs
  18. Disney relents and giveth an R-rated MCU film, Disney taketh 2D evening shows. I knew there was a catch. Mouse Corp. balancing things out for losing out on families.
  19. Obviously means Coppola should have spent time and energy instead on Bram Stoker's Dracula 2: Electric Boogaloo
