Having seen a screening for it, the trailer is misleading. It's more of a drama with horror elements than an action movie.
I'd personally put it below Ex Machina, maybe around Annihilation, but way above Men in terms of rankings for Garland movies.
Completely missed Men.

IMAX Sydney is finally opening!
https://www.smh.com.au/culture/movies/after-seven-years-sydney-s-imax-is-reopening-just-in-time-for-taylor-swift-20231009-p5eapf.htmlYes. They only announced it yesterday. First film was Avatar 2. Oppenheimer is screening.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned but this isn't set in our future. This is set in the future of an alternate history.

Pricing is standard in Australia. Same price for The Creator this weekend as for Eras when it opens.

It's a solid film with good performances but it's constantly feels like you're seeing elements from multiple other films. The Nomad spaceship feels like it's the gateway at the Battle of Scarif.

Biggest weekend in Australia since Endgame opened and by sheer coincidence.
#Barbenheimmer 4 day weekend = AUD34.09m
Endgame 4 day weekend = AUD34.09m

I saw this in a pact 800 seat theatre. The audience loved it and applause broke out after a certain speech.

Both films are fantastic. Oppenheimer is brilliant and Barbie is both hilarious and poignant.

In the UK, $13.8M made for the best start for the franchise at 717 locations. India, for its part, launched with a No. 1 $9M at 1,872 locations for the best weekend bow of the year. In Australia, the No. 1 debut was good for $8.3M and the best-ever for the Mission movies. France launched M:I7 to $7.7M at 785 sites while Taiwan drove up $7M from just 101, the best of the bunch.
It opened on Saturday 8th July in Australia and has been in theatres for 9 days now. No idea what $8.3M covers.

That's a bummer. Seems to be a lot of that going on right now. The best IMAX screen in Houston was ruined years ago by a decision to replace the 70mm film projector with a bad Xenon projector that was not capable of showing the 1.43:1 aspect ratio of real IMAX footage.
Most recently, they shut down the Houston screen for some kind of renovation that is still not finished. I have my doubts that they will give this screen what it deserves, which is either the Dual Laser system or 70mm projector (or a combo of both). At least Dual Laser is able to fill the screen. They might give it the single Laser system, which is better than Xenon but still not capable of filling the screen in the right way.
It's almost finished and will probably open September-November I would think.
