Weekdays Thread: Barbie $9.1M MON | $9.6M TUES

Thank God she didn't...she doesn't have a fraction of the acting chops of Robbie (and I like Gadot - she has a charming screen presence). -

Emma Watson was paid $3m upfront for her role as Belle. I think she hit $15m once the film hit $750m WW at the box office. She should have said $30m if the film hit $1.25b...but hindsight is 20/20. Robbie probably will make over $50m for her role in the film. -

Can someone explain to me how a fucking piece of A.I is going to write screenplays? That's horrifying. How would they even write romance scenes? -
I just got warning points for my post that was deleted in the Snow White thread. I literally got 2 warning points because I said that the decision to remove the dwarves was awful and that it's when wokeness is taken to extreme levels. That is a view stated by both sides of the political spectrum on mainstream and social media. And then Eric said I used the word woke to start flame wars? What? Why does he get to fucking state what my intention is (and he could not be further from the truth)? It's absurd and creates a toxic environment where we are being treated like children. Enough is enough.

Barbie's $9.1m is hugely impressive. It'll be at TDK's numbers by the end of the weekend and some seem to think it's not locked to hit $600m? It'll be at $575m-$580m by August 20th. By Labor Day weekend, it will be well past $600m. -
Since I just got warning points for stating my views, I will rephrase my statement: I think this will bomb spectacularly. And I actually hope it does for the sheer fact of making it seem like dwarves/midgets should not have a role. What? Peter Dinklage and other actors spoke out against the idiotic decision and I'm glad mainstream media was also mostly against the decision. Midgets have a very tough time in Hollywood, and taking away the opportunity from the only film that would have showcased them so publicly is a fucking disaster. Shame on Disney.

EEAAO is an 8/10 movie that could have been a 9-9.5 if it were not for the absolutely hideous subplot with the sausage fingers. Took me the fuck out and inundated otherwise emotional scenes. Why the fuck did I need to see ketchup and mustard foaming out of their mouths? Disgusting. Shame. It's when filmmakers try to be weird just for the sake of it when they could have instead made something much more engaging.

Crystal Skull was fifteen years ago - more than enough time for the next film to be completely stripped of its sins. Rumours of Phoebe were inconsequential. Cannes reviews definitely put a dent, but the main issue was and always has been...THE FUCKING CHARACTER IS ANCIENT AND NO ONE WANTS TO SEE AN 85 YEAR OLD MAN IN AN ACTION FRANCHISE. Indy should have been left well alone. Even a sequel with entirely new characters (not senior) with only a small connection to Indy would have done a lot better than this one.

I do think the Part 1 in the title hurt it. Part 1's after DH1 really don't have a good reputation, and this one should have removed it from the title. EDIT: To clarify, I meant DH1 really worked artistically and as a story, but the rest really saw significant falls in quality which is why a film having a Part 1 in the title today is a bad idea.

Captain Marvel is the definition of a film that is perfectly fine on a first viewing in theaters and is enjoyable enough, but you really forget the vast majority of the film by the next day.

Batman is very popular overseas...TDK and TDKR both did $533m and $635m OS fifteen, and eleven years ago. Before the Avengers hit and Marvel really took off, the only characters that were consistently more popular overseas than Batman were Potter, Sparrow, and Baggins. Spider-Man was a little more popular, but not by too much.
