  1. I'm just now getting into shows, so I have a pitiful list of what I've seen thus far. Wonder Years Twin Peaks Arrested Development And that's about it. I'm really down for any kind of show in terms of genre, although I'd prefer a 30-min show for now. Want to save the hour-long shows for when my fiancee finishes up nursing school and moves in with me.
  2. Here's the situation: I just finished up Arrested Development, and am now just waiting for the next season on May 26th. I'm going to leave it open to the board to pick my next show. It needs to be a show that can be streamed on Netflix, and preferably one that has already concluded. I was kind of leaning towards the likes of 30 Rock or Trailer Park Boys, but I'm open for anything.
  3. I recently did a re-watch of The Avengers a couple weeks ago, and I still feel something is missing. I think my biggest problem is that the stakes are high, but the film doesn't really do a good job at providing any suspense to go along with it. You never really feel like any of the heroes are in any danger, even with Iron Man at the end. Still, above average superhero fare, albeit on the light and breezy side.
  4. So I was away all weekend.........did any Potter fans freak out when IM3 passed it OW?
  5. Ahhh, the inevitable "this is disappointing" post. A film has to literally break records or people on this forum always bring up disappointment when discussing the numbers.
  6. So how much of the increase is going to be as a result of 3D surcharges? In the long run, it looks like it will increase over IM2, but in large part as a result of 3D prices driving up the gross.
  7. The amount of over-analyzing and nitpicking displayed in this thread on these two fantasy, effects-driven blockbusters is hilarious. In addition, trying to argue the plausibility of events in films like these is comparable to complaining about nudity in a strip club. Simply ridiculous.
  8. Kudos for the balls and audacity, but it simply can't pull it off. Pattinson is decent though, he has some potential.

  10. "I find Avatar to be incredibly mediocore, and insanely overrated." Sounds like indifference to me. I've said it before..........there's nothing worse to be than indifferent towards a film. I'd prefer to love or hate it rather than simply not caring about it one way or the other.
  11. The big difference is Jurassic Park has actually human characters with personality, and characters that were somewhat relatable. Avatar was about visuals, and offered little to nothing else. I'd rather watch a film where I hated a character, because at least it makes me feel some kind of emotion. With Avatar I simply didn't give a rat's ass about what happened to any of the characters. It's one thing to use a contrived story, but it's another to not even attempt to provide any emotional investment in the characters. I find Avatar to be incredibly mediocore, and insanely overrated.
  12. If you value such things as story, characters, and originality in films, then the answer is easily Jurassic Park. If you think that a movie merely needs to "look cool and unique" to be a good movie, then go with Avatar.
  13. It's fucking terrible, but special mention has to go to Sam Worthington. I'm not really sure how this was pulled off, but the dude has managed to headline some major blockbusters the last few years (including the #1 grossing film of all-time) despite having zero ounce of acting talent or ability. Also, just how plastered were Fiennes and Neeson when they agreed to do this?
  14. So fishnet's irrational hate of another actress has led to the hijacking of a review thread for a film in which, unsurprisingly, she hasn't seen and is likely just talking out of her ass based on reviews and other WOM? Par for the course, IMO.
  15. I was pretty disappointed with this. I enjoyed it to an extent, but felt there was a battle between straight crime drama and political commentary that damn near destroyed the whole film. I would be on board with the political commentary if it was more at the forefront and done in a more interesting manner, but it seemed when ever I would get into the story, the political talk would begin. It just felt too uneven and unfocused, and after Jesse James, I was expecting something a little different. Still, not a complete failure.
  16. It takes everything that made the first one work (campiness, cheesy one-liners, humor) and basically eliminates it from the fold. The remainder is a souless and basically storyless film. Sure, it looks good, but when there's no story to support it......what's the point?
  17. Um, what? Taking statements on the Internet in a literal sense isn't the brightest way of interpretation. Movies are obviously subjective........and I can understand one thinking this is boring (to each their own, I suppose). But if you're insinuating that The Thin Red Line is poorly made, then that's just fucking ridiculous.

  19. When the majority of users on this site are under 20, a fanboy of some nerdy franchise, or genuinely think that film has only existed post-1990, there's really no point in ever trying to do Favorite Movies list, IMO. There are some great film fans on here, but the majority of voters would just lead to the list being bogged down by fanboy-driven films of the last 10 years.

  21. It's the kind of film that demands a re-watch, but I pretty much loved it.It's beautiful, hypnotic, and seductive in a rather dirty and grim manner that you really have to see to be able to understand. It will stay in your mind well after the credits....a searing take on the current youth culture's lack moral strength and independence.I can't wait too see it again, and with Side Effects and now Spring Breakers only 3 months into the year (need to see Stoker), 2014 is off to some kind of start.A
  22. The only way The Thin Red Line is boring is if you're only concerned with visual stimulation in regards to films. A movie that makes you think is the opposite of boring, although simple-minded folk will inevitably label it as such, IMO.
