  1. BOT's Greatest Directors Poll | 2019 Edition It's time to resurrect what was once a rather popular poll - to decide who BOT believes to be the Greatest Director of All Time! This list has been done once before, as you can see here. However, the demographic of the site has changed significantly since then*. The rules are simple - submit your list to me via PM by August 18th 2019. The results will be tallied and the countdown will begin. Rules - Use whatever criterion you prefer to rank the directors you submit. - Ranking is simple - everyone is given 100 points to distribute among as many directors as they wish - with a max of 50 points to a single director (and a lower bound of 10 directors is required to be eligible). (This method was picked as it allows you to have many directors and perhaps two favorites in whatever combination you like). For example a list might be: 1. Stanley Kubrick 20 2. Akira Kurosawa 15 3. Andrei Tarkovsky 12 4. Steven Spielberg 11 5. David Fincher 11 6. Alfred Hitchcock 10 7. James Cameron 9 8. Ingmar Bergman 4 9. John Ford 4 10. Ridley Scott 4 etc... - Tiebreakers will be decided by who received more votes, and then if still a tie who has the highest box office gross (highly unlikely this will be required). Any questions, please ask in the thread - and feel free to post your list with comments regarding who you voted for and why. *If you take a look at the thread posted by Luna, many of those who voted in 2014 no longer frequent the site - many new users have also joined in the resulting 5 years.
  2. Reasons: 1) Trailer response is mixed at best. 2) This is a sequel of sorts so legs will suffer plus the OW will take a huge drop also. 3) Not a fan driven franchise, so this will also impact OW. 4) Chris Pratts star power is weaker since the first JW. 5) June is pretty competitive with Han Solo holdovers, Deadpool and The Incredibles 2. 6) Audiences will be penny pinching by the time JW2 rolls around. 7) Novelty factor is gone which dampens the hype quite a bit. 8) Nostalgia was a driving force for JW but Jeff Goldblum is treated like an after-thought in the trailer and this doesn't have the same rehash opportunity to re-do JP1 like JW did.
  3. Okay I'll be honest. The main reason for this club is Iron Man 3. For those who remember, Iron Man received a YUUUUGE bump from The Avengers which was indisputably MCU's first pop culture phenomenon. Well is could be argued the phase 3 has put MCU on a higher plateau and the one-two punch of BP and IW could be one of the biggest pop culture phenomenons Hollywood has seen within a 4 month period (the two put together). So will Ant-Man and The Wasp experience an 80% phase 3/BP/IW bump? Vote or die, bitches!
  4. This is a pretty easy club to join except for a small, indie movie called Jurassic World 2. My reasons why I think Avengers 3 will pull an upset: 1) Jurassic World was lightning in a bottle. I expect the sequel to drop like a rock (See Fate of the Furious) 2) Avengers has a more loyal fanbase with not too much drop off between TA and AOU. 3) The Russo's always bring their A game and this is their first official Avengers film. 4) Thanos is the biggest Avengers villian. Basically the Avengers' Joker. 5) Jurassic World's novelty and hype has worn down considerably since 2015. 6) Infinity War will get a bump from the collective audience from recent Black Panther, Thor, Spider-man and Guardian movies. 7) Avengers 3 has much less competition than Jurassic World 2. 8) AOU made almost a billion OS, Civil War made only 750 m. So Avenger films are better recieved OS than quasi-Avenger films like Civil War.
  5. @Ethan Hunt pissed me off so much by shitting on Thanos that I made this club! It's not the boldest of clubs but I think this is a reasonable benchmark outside of those miserable bastards who think Marvel's glory days are over. Anyway, my top reasons this club will be a runaway success. 1) No Mayweather fight, bitches. 200 m OW is possible. 2) This is the climax of phases 1 through 3. The culmination of a decade of building Marvel Universe. 3) It's not a Captain America movie. 4) The Russos are like James Gunn, among MCU's greatest directors and not to be underestimated. 5) Thanos is the Avenger's Joker. Expect a decent bump when he finally leaves his throne to get busy. 6) Dr. Strange was a huge success. GotG2 was a huge success. Thor 3 and Black Panther will most likely be a huge success. All these characters will be in Avengers 3, many of who never fought alongside the Avengers. 7) AOU had kind of weak trailers. Disney's marketing for MCU movies has never been stronger and they will pull out all the stops for their final phase 3 push. 8) With a 200 m OW, all Infinity War needs are 2.52 legs to beat Beauty and the Flea Bag.
  6. It's time for that poll again. Which films from 2016 do you think will be well remembered by the GP and film fans in 10 years? Answer away.
