Even Interstellar was edited to please China. Not even Nolan can escape that.

Hell, Nolan probably sanctioned it when he took over the main writing job.

Spielberg wouldn't have caved though, he gives no fucks.

You have no idea what you're talking about. There are plenty of video game companies in China. The PC gaming and MMO markets are huge over there.

I meant console gaming. Which is being unbanned today.

What was edited?

Hate pandering to the Chinese.

Not that America and the rest of the world isn't corrupted too but China's politicians are a joke. How many hundreds of millions live in poverty there?

Saudi, Brunei, Russia etc oligarch and government corruption whilst millions struggle. Ugh.

Aside from the original script for Spielberg's version featuring the heroes encountering a Chinese expedition, in later drafts closer to what was actually filmed the drone that is in the cornfields was originally a Chinese drone instead of an Indian one.

Remember the remake of Red Dawn, where they delayed the movie for a year in order to remove any reference to China being the villains and instead digitally changed everything to make North Korea the villains?

That's probably the worst thing I've ever seen done in a movie in order to please China.

I'm surprised if it only cost $8m more than your average Adam Sandler film considering there is VFX.

Blended cost 40m.

Clearly Sandler has had to stop charging the "hire all my friends and pay me top dollar!" Tax.

That being said....the budgets on his Netflix movies is...lower than this, but still pricy.

Genuinely don't understand why, outside of hating anything Sandler, critics attacked this with such venom. Yes it was flawed, Dinklage had some real crap to say, and they criminally wasted Jane Krakowski, but it's a lot of fun and doesn't take itself too seriously. Insane stuff.

The Pixels backstory provides insight into the studio's troubles. Based on a 2 minute and 35 second animated short, the project was developed by Sony and Sandler's Happy Madison Productions. When Chris Columbus was brought in to direct, he excitedly wrote to Pascal about a rewrite of the script, "This officially turns this movie into a perennial, a film that families can watch together for the next thirty years," predicting, "It now feels like a gigantic four quadrant event."

The Adam Sandler formula for getting the four quadrants:

Crotch shots

Farts

Fat guy falls down (generally involving Kevin James)

Other slapstick humor that in real life would cause substantial injury or even death

Bodily substances of a non-violent and non-sexual nature

So-called "improvisation" of gibberish or lazy pop culture references
