grim22
Looks like PR will have a weekend between 15-16.5M (depending on Saturday), much steeper drop than anyone expected.

grim22
Just read this article: http://blogs.indiewire.com/thompsononhollywood/grown-ups-2-has-best-sony-opening-day-since-skyfall Dugan's hits, which include six previous $100 million successes (led by "Big Daddy") have been closely associated with both Adam Sandler (though not exclusively) and with Sony Pictures. Even without any critical support, his films have grossed over $1 billion, is more than the totals for films from directors as acclaimed and popular as Martin Scorsese, Clint Eastwood, David Fincher and Ang Lee. Not inflation adjusted of course, but still makes for an amazing statistic. Edited July 20, 2013 by grim22

rockNrollaDIM
Proposal was not Bullock. Thats the movie that allowed us to call it the Bullock factor. And what stars carry movirs tpday? Washington and Sandler? Who else?Huh? Isn't that an oxymoron?Several stars carry movies. Denzel, Sandler, Pitt, Cruise, Streep, Diaz, Jolie, McCarthy, Depp, Will Smith, Bullock, RDJ, they can all put asses in seats based just on their name. Reynolds is nowhere near that category.Even when these guys flop it still shits all over RR box office (ex Cruise in Knight and Day) Edited July 20, 2013 by aDIM

mcclaine
If they really spent $180m on the damn movie, they might as well just have splurged the extra $15m and gotten Will Smith instead of Ryan Reynolds. yes, cos After Earth was a monster hit, everyone knows that! ecstasy
yes, cos After Earth was a monster hit, everyone knows that! After Earth aside there is no question that Will Smith is a bigger draw than RR.

He's only had one flop (WHD) which is just on the level as Knight and Day and After Earth.
Gopher
50 million more times, I guess. It's like these guys like to hear themselves speak. I've, you, Omega, Gopher and few others have said we were wrong but to no avail. Next week's podcast will be me crying to Rich and Andrew about PR's underperformance because apparently that's what these guys want out of us.

Mango
Damn, poor Pacific Rim. A 60% drop for an original film in mid-summer is just bad, no matter which way you spin it. Fanboy favorite director or not, that is just really bad. Well, this definitely isn't helping the case for less adaptations and more original risks. The Conjuring is doing great though. Word of mouth is better than any horror movie in a long time, so it might it be able to defy the usual frontloadedness of the genre and get to $40 million anyway? Grown Ups 2 is fading fast, RIPD and Red 2 flopped like fucking crazy. They'll be in discount theaters in a month, maybe less. Turbo might miss $20 million in worst case scenario, so DWA is definitely not going to have a fun time in the coming months. Despicable Me 2 is still pulling some great numbers though.
