I'd say yes they are a good example of the opposite, because audiences did not particularly like those films either.

2012:

AUDIENCE SCORE

day after tomorrow:

AUDIENCE SCORE

33 million user ratings on DAFT seems a little unlikely lol. but yeah I'd say those are films people don't really like much.

You are quite correct the successful disaster / monster films which the main selling point is something non-human, the film will only work if there is a human element successful.

Honestly if we're talking RT scores, G-2014's isn't bad critically or audience wise

Alien, Predator, Jaws, Tremors, The Meg, characters worked in them.

One of those movies doesn’t belong there :hahaha:

Please go on....

What’s the China release date btw?

No date yet. But probably May.31.

This May could be crazy because of Endgame, Pikachu and G2.

Spoiler

Also heard something very positive about the film itself.

I'm amazed this is an actual line in a film...

How are you able to predict such a big number so early?

(Don’t get me wrong I’m absolutely thrilled!)

Not to mention a waste of Watanabe.

Watanabe only seems to be in these movies to stare at things intensely and deliver a few cheesy lines as seriously as possible.

Oh come on now, “the arrogance of men is taking nature is in our control” is such a deep meaningful line

The best part of the Meg is that the dog lived. You can’t hate a movie where the dog lives.

I'm still not sure the Pacific Rim sequel featured actual human characters, either.

I know that it’s disliked by Godzilla fans due to its portrayal of Godzilla. But I dont get the overwhelming hate this movie gets. It was an entertaining action/monster movie.

I know this post is more than a day old, but I see it this way:

If we received a Superman movie where Clark Kent didn't have superhuman strength and got beaten up by lowly thugs, people would be up in arms and the film would bomb horribly.

The 1998 film is exactly that, except it didn't bomb horribly....though it should have.

When I saw the movie I was super super young and I didnt know who or what Godzilla was. So I didnt see it through the prism that its not an accurate Godzilla portrayal. And I still dont. I saw it as a cool action/monster movie.

But I understand your point. I can see why people who liked Godzilla would hate that movie.
