New Line and Warner Bros.' We're the Millers is winning the Wednesday box office race in North America with a projected gross north of $7 million, putting the R-rated comedy on course to earn a pleasing $35 million-plus through Sunday, according to studio insiders.

Opening in the No. 2 spot Wednesday is 20th Century Fox's sequelPercy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, based on the bestselling YA series by Rick Riordan. The film, directed this time  by Thor Freudenthal, is expected to gross $5 million or more for the day for a projected five-day debut north of $25 million, if not better.

Good number for WTM.

For comparison, TITE made 7.8 from it's opening Wednesday a few months ago. But with a lack of MOS-sized competition and a more standard comedy style that may be a bit more attractive to the general audience than TITE, it might be able to put up similar or even bigger weekend numbers despite the worse reviews.

Anyone know why they waited 3 years to do the Percy sequel? The audience has completely forgotten about this series! Talk about stupid mistake!

Good question... I'm more surprised they actually made a sequel though. The first one isn't that popular, is it?

The first Percy barely made a profit, making double its budget.

But the franchise really depended on its tween audience. These YA franchises need to be released yearly like Potter and Twilight to maintain the hype. After 3 years, the tweens which liked the first movie would have moved onto bigger things like Hunger Games and the Marvel superheroes.
