4.17 "For Those Who Carry On" (Jim's Glory)

CEDAR is recovering from the fight. So far, he is winning...but Jim is taking advantage of him. Jim's score is 0.00% so far...based off only 1 question. The other two questions were dropped by virtue of JIm's Power Chip. CEDAR can distinguish it clearly now. If he can keep holding Jim down, though, he can retrieve that Power Chip from him. Then CEDAR can ensure his victory will be clear, and Jim will have no chance of recovery if CEDAR gets his hands on that chip. CEDAR senses the best is yet to come. His scores so far have been awful, but the early slip-ups are only a cover for what is coming next.

Question 4

CEDAR steps up to the plate and scores...95.80%. A solid recovery. CEDAR is taking this one in the bag, no doubt. Jim's chip won't save him here, and it would be fool-hardy to use it again when this was a remarkably simple question, at least in comparison to the first three.

Jim smiles. That smile, though. It sets CEDAR off balance. And Jim goes in for a kill...and scores 92.89%. His first significant score so far, and mixed with only one other score, Jim sits pretty low, but good enough to catch up, with a current score of 46.45%.

CEDAR meanwhile sits at 48.32% overall so far. Jim has definitely closed the gap.

And he knows it. He laughs, and the laugh sets CEDAR off balance. Jim shouldn't be able to catch up to him like this.

Question 5

Jim sees CEDAR struggle now. The fight is real. The two are neck-in-neck. If Jim uses his Power Chip one more time, he should be guaranteed to take the upper hand. Question 5 is a tough one, so a 0% score here, or anything low for CEDAR, will throw him off...and if Jim eradicates his own score, then he will take the reigns quite handily.

This is it!

CEDAR goes in and scores....0.00%..

YES!

Jim must do it. He must do it now. He summons on his Legend Power Chip. The blow, the tragic blow and...it comes. He removes his score for this question.

Which sets the current scores at...

CEDAR - 38.65%

Jim Shorts - 46.45%

Jim Shorts has taken the lead. CEDAR is going down now, and he falls to his knees before Jim. The Legend fight is real, and CEDAR is finally losing it...by virtue of Jim's Power Chip. Jim has taken the upper hand.

An onlooker approaches. Jim Shorts victorious? This would bode well for the onlooker. If his own partner can take down CEDAR, he would not need to intervene. But he knows suddenly that Jim may be the bigger threat. If CEDAR takes down Jim, then taking down CEDAR would seem righteous, as a move of redemption. But if Jim takes down CEDAR, then fighting Jim for the crown would seem wrong...tainted and wrong. Not when the two had done so well together so far.

The newcomer is 4815162342.

Most people know him as Numbers.

4.17 "For Those Who Carry On" (Numbers)

It's not really a three-way duel. Not yet. Numbers won't dare go in in the chance that his appearance may hinder Jim in the fight. And as Jim has the upper hand now against CEDAR, Numbers' involvement may truly ruin Jim's chances at keeping CEDAR down. Besides, Numbers wants to see Jim succeed. Yet it pains him. Numbers is not a glory-seeker, but he knows his duty. Jim has taken the role of a Legend, and if Numbers wins here, he will certainly be crowned a Legend status as well, and that will help him later. He can be the one to return Goffe to his side and they will ride together into battle in the future, to preserve their legacy. But he must be a Legend, like Jim Shorts. He does not envy Jim, not truly. Jim deserves his status. Numbers is humble...yes, humble. Competitiveness is best reserved for Jim Shorts and CEDAR.

And that is why Numbers has stepped down so far. Let the two battle it out. Numbers will sneak in undetected. While CEDAR is down, he will help Jim kill him. It's kind of tragic, though. CEDAR did cause a lot of heartbreak for Numbers. The death of 24Lost, the separation from Goffe and Jim and the demise of Goffe himself...all in some way connected to CEDAR. Yet rather than eliminate Numbers when he had the chance, CEDAR took him in, sheltered him, and helped mold him into a stronger character. He knows that his brief time on "The Shadowkillers" trained him to be more brutal...and CEDAR is a master, one whom Numbers has actually learned a lot from. So it is a pain for him to take CEDAR out, even if CEDAR was and has always truly been his biggest enemy.

There is a weakness there. Numbers is in a hard place here. If he strikes against CEDAR now, though, he will cause his end...and that will prove that the student can best the master. But then Numbers will have to focus on Jim Shorts, his own loyal, devoted friend...his ally. Jim has been the truest ally of all these many weeks, so to turn on Jim will be an unbearable feat. But if Numbers can do it, he can become a Legend like Jim, and he can bring Jim back...together, they can retrieve Goffe, and "The Equation Sensation" will live on in the glory that it is entitled.

So Numbers goes in.

Question 6

Keep CEDAR down. That is the main goal here. Destroy CEDAR, and it will be well. Jim is the lesser of two evils...not evil at all. But it must be done. Here and now.

CEDAR puts up a whimper, struggling to rise. He scores 62.90%. Although it increases his score, it's not enough. JIm goes in for a killing blow and comes up with 62.30%.

Jim has the upper hand still, but CEDAR is making too much progress once more. The gap is still there, but the current scores sit at

CEDAR - 42.70%

Jim Shorts - 51.73%

Jim is leading, but CEDAR beat him on Question 6. It shows a sign of recovery. Numbers can't let CEDAR recover. Keep him down...he knows that. So Numbers goes in and scores 71.12%.

Numbers wins this question. He may have had to beat Jim in it, but more importantly, he beat CEDAR. And that will help keep CEDAR down. Down where he belongs.

4.17 "For Those Who Carry On" (Three-Way Duel)

Jim is stunned. He had thought Numbers would stay out of this. He could handle CEDAR on his own. But Numbers is intervening...and oddly, it doesn't seem like Numbers is here to help him. But why? Why would Numbers try to hinder him?

Then he sees the wound in CEDAR. A wounded dog, it looks like. CEDAR is lowest of them all now. How ironic, that one who seems so high and mighty can now plummet well below those he would never have deemed his equals. Numbers and Jim will see to it that CEDAR dies here.

Yet Jim still can't fathom Numbers' presence here. And then he knows. He can see it in the way Numbers carries himself. Numbers suffered a humiliation last week. He wanted to make up for it, partially by aiding Jim, mostly by earning his title. Numbers is more humble than Jim is himself, and Jim knows that, but Numbers still wants more than he lets on. He's always been a glory seeker, even if he would deny it. He's not as power-hungry as any of "The Shadowkillers" are, nor is he as savage as Jim Shorts, but Numbers is not a fool either. He is wiser than all of them combined. He may not have the experience of CEDAR, but he has skill and strategy...strategy that's probably going to overthrow CEDAR in the end.

Yes, this is a battle though. Numbers is a great ally. If they both take down CEDAR together, it will be an end to it. Yet Jim wants to be the one to finish CEDAR. It's just right. And Numbers would get in the way. What's more, Jim needs the title himself. He wants to prove to CEDAR not only can he beat him, but he can be the winner...the first place Champion. He wants to rub it in. CEDAR will be all the more pained by it. And Numbers...stood in the way.

Question 7

There is nothing that can be done. Jim senses a weakness in both of his competitors. They'll both fail this question. And he knows he will too...but there is no reason to activate his Power Chip again, not if the other two fail also. Save it for the very end. He can tell it is running low, so it will only keep him alive so much longer before it can fail him.

So Jim accepts his score of 0.00% on this question. Although it drags his average down a hearty amount, it's no worry. Jim can see it in CEDAR, too. The beast is not going to rise here.

CEDAR comes up to the plate and gets knocked back down. 0.00% for CEDAR as well. It's nothing!

And NUmbers can't even rise above the challenge of this question. Jim sees as he pushes himself against it, but it's like a twig throwing itself against a glass wall. It willl...snap! And 0.00% for Numbers.

The failure is imminent. CEDAR is going down for sure. Unfortunately, so must Numbers.

Question 8

Must not let go. Must hold on.

CEDAR thought this would be easier. It's not easy. Jim is laying a beat down, but Jim is weaker than he thinks. Without his Power Chip, CEDAR would be crushing him instead.

Numbers is a wild card. He's good, really good. Probably better than both CEDAR and Jim. CEDAR would never say that, though, but he knows deep down that Numbers can take him any day. In pure skill, Numbers is a much greater foe than Jim. But Jim is far more dangerous, because he is more ambitious. And ambition will lead to either Jim's or CEDAR's destruction.

CEDAR won't let it get to that. Not his destruction. Jim will go down, and then CEDAR can struggle to confront Numbers. He wouldn't fear. Separate the two, and they're both weak. Then again, CEDAR couldn't deny that he is weak now. His skill is fading. And here, in the bleating final moments, CEDAR must struggle to put up a fight and...he does. He does it. 87.39%. A great recovery.

CEDAR hopes it can be enough, but is it?

Numbers slashes at CEDAR...a deafening and unexpected blow. CEDAR was poised toward Jim, expecting him to come head on. But instead its the unexpected one. Numbers leaps forward...and CEDAR shoves him aside. Numbers scores 76.34%.

Numbers falls to the ground. CEDAR pays him no mind. Come at me. Jim Shorts. Bring it on.

And Jim does just that. 96.64%.

Jim is winning this. There isn't a way around it.

CEDAR knows that. He can feel himself sinking lower. How? How has this happened?

...and suddenly, he sees his way out.
