by adjust number Titanic is stil highest grossing English film in india, that is insane

It's really not though. Titantic in 2019 would do less than it did 1997 unadjusted. Just watch when avatar does way less in 2021. If it doesn't do above 600 in China it's not reaching 2.5B

No way. Ticket rates in India are 9x 1998 besides Titanic 3D itself did ₹20cr when unadjusted Titanic in 1998 was ₹53cr.

Titanic if released today will do ₹300cr quite easily.

These are box office SHARE. Gross will be roughly ₹1,450cr in 2019 and ₹1,700cr in 2018.

Quote

Over the last few years, drawing conclusions on comparison from the box office share has become a little complicated due to imposition of GST, which deflated the shares in the second half of 2017 and whole of 2018 with 28 percent tax rate, and then inflated the numbers in 2019 with reduction of rate to 18 percent. Complicating things further, in 2019, distributors quietly began including the GST output when reporting box office numbers. The move was basically to juice the numbers.

Adjusting these two factors, the comparable number last year is ₹720 crore approx, which is about 13 percent down from last year. This consecutive two years decline in box office is a worrisome issue for the industry. Despite continuous increase in ticket rates and growth in multiplex sector, the box office is on decline

2017 169cr, +43%

2018 404cr, +139%

2019 642cr, +59%

Pretty crazy. 2020 will be a humongous come down before 4 a year takes things back to a nice level.

H4 did 200cr more or less...can you shed light on how it's not a clean hit?

That chart makes me re-think how great a year A.Kumar had.

The verdicts by Komal Nahata are quite stricter and plainly for trade. BoxOfficeIndia are for internet audience majorily and quite leniant for big films.

Komal Nahata verdicts are strongly on Distributor and Exhibitor recovery and theatrical while BOI give more focus to producer and verdicts are hybrid.

Akshay had a really good year, even with Komal Nahata standard as all his films were successful but not as big as BOI made them out.

Is there any female star in Bollywood with legit appeal for the masses?? Or even for the urban/multiplex crowd?? I see recent female fronted movies opening in single digits so this (Manikarnika probably opened in double digits but that was based on historical events) popped into my head. I also remember Kriti Sanon being upset at press media for neglecting her contribution to Luka Chhupi's success so there's that as well. Are there really no female stars with big hype and credibility??

BOI https://boxofficeindia.com/report-details.php?articleid=5807

Quote

Tanhaji - The Unsung Warrior has recorded excellent collections on Sunday with 25-26 crore nett as per early estimates which will mean a 60 crore nett weekend for the film. The growth is superb on Sunday with collections going up 30%.

Chhapaak has fared poorly with a 7-7.50 crore nett Sunday which means a weekend of 18 crore nett plus.

Looking at the trend 3x+ the weekend for 180cr+ total for Tanhaji looks feasible.

Chhapaak may not do more than 2x the weekend and may end under 40cr nett. Should have done that in the first week with strong wom and doubling the opening week instead of the opening weekend should have been the goal.
