Just saw it ... terrible movie. Don't know how Aamir can go this wrong especially when he knows China is one of his major markets and he can't afford a bad movie there. Anyways Aamir and Amitabh have acted well but the script is just not good enough and the movie is so sexist, they keep showing Katrina's waist and bust for uncomfortable amount of time. Think it'll fold b/w 200-250 in India. Heard minimum guarantee from China is 20M for this so need to perform there but I am not so sure it can go big there as well. Back to the drawing board for Aamir.

 

Edit - Bollywood needs to stay away from Vijay Acharya ... what a hack who has now directed Tashan, D3 and TOH.

I don't know about as low as 165cr...even Race3 managed that (100cr 3-day ow + 65cr rest of the run), but below 200cr won't surprise me. Wonder if Zero above Thugs upset will happen in the best case scenario for Zero.

 

PRDP did nearly 130cr 4-day (40cr OD on Thu and 90cr FSS) and then added 90cr more to it's run (producer figure).

 

I think Thugs could do 120-130cr 4-day followed by 65-75cr more for 185-205cr total.

yeah. i think the word of mouth initially doesn't make much difference for huge films with no competition. race3 also stayed steady over first 3 days in low-mid 30cr range.

 

if thugs does 115 or less over 4-days i think 165-175 is realistic.

Yeah, I have no idea how Vijay Acharya got to direct the most expensive movie ever made (till 2.0). He has no style of his own and no sense of scope. Dhoom 3 looks so cheap compared to the first 2.

Thugs of Hindostan Destroys All Box Office Records

 

Thugs Of Hindostan (HINDI) has destroyed all box records as it collects in the 50 crore nett range on the first day. It will the first film to hit this mark if it reaches with final collections in the morning. The previous record was 39.32 crore of Prem Ratan Dhan Payo if we count outright Hindi films only and.40.73 crore nett if we include box office legend Bahubali - The Conclusion. It is also the highest single day in history as it beats the Sunday numbers of Sanju.

 

 

Thugs Of Hindustan has beaten every single circuit figure of Prem Ratan Dhan Payo that is certain while though it will be ahead of Bahubali - The Conclusion in terms of all India collections some circuits maybe a little less as the major difference between Thugs of Hindustan and Bahubali - The Conclusion is coming from the South (where Bahubali - The Conclusion had a limited release in Hindi), Delhi / UP and Bihar

 

 

Delhi / UP and Bihar are extraordinary as Delhi / UP figure may beat the Bahubali - The Conclusion figure by 2 crore nett and Bihar also may come out 50 lakh ahead. The film has run riot in these two circuits with multiplexes collecting earth shattering numbers and single screens running house full across both circuits.

 

 

The holiday factor has pushed the film and Bahubali - The Conclusion was not a holiday but still the numbers have to be done. It is easy to say 45 or 50 crore nett but to actually get is a huge achievement today. In the future even a 50 crore nett number will look small as many films do it as ticket prices get higher and higher.

 

 

The big benchmarks apart from the all India 50 crore nett day one that are on for the film are a 10 crore nett total in Delhi / UP which no one has even got close to, even 9 crore nett has not been surpassed on any day. It also could get 3 crore nett in Rajasthan and 1.50 crore nett in Bihar.

 

 

There is a possibility of the film going over 50 crore nett when the final figures come out in the morning. The range at present is a big one between 48-52 crore as 48 crore it has done for sure and 52 crore nett is a possibilty. This all depends on the where the final figures of Mumbai and Delhi / UP come out at in the morning as these two could be 5-10% higher or lower than present estimates.

Actuals haven't come in but 50cr day 1 for THUGS atm.

 

Addatoday says day 2 will target 30cr+ range and that will be acceptable.

PRDP was a 130cr 4-day largely due to gap on Day1.

Day 1 (Thursday)	40.35 crore

Day 4 (Sunday)	28.30 crore	- 6%

 

After the 4-day weekend it added 85cr approx while I feel with worse reception and inflated ticket prices over the weekend, THUGS will target 70cr for 150+70 = 220cr total.

 

220cr will be good but disappointing. Less than Kick and Chennai Express which came when ticket prices were lower.

Yikes. Stree was the last good hindi movie for me. For hindi blockbusters, this was a bad year by quality after padmavat.

Thugs Of Hindustan Drops On Day Two

Thugs Of Hindostan has had a drop in collections on its second day and will collect in the 32-34 crore nett range. The huge opening day was expected and post the release the drop was also expected due to the reports. The drop is looking in the 35% region though parts of the country especially mass belts have held better due to post Diwali.

 

 

Despite the drop the film has still collected well as its coming from a high level. Ideally the drop should have been around 20-25% but  its not as if the film has crashed out on day two. It will be a healthy number on day two and it is now about consolidating at these levels over the weekend. The struggle will happen if it keeps on going down over the next two days. If the film can hold over the next two days it will take the film to a huge extended weekend and then it becomes about weekday levels.

 

 

The first two day business will be in the 82-84 crore nett range and it remains to be seen how much the next two days can add. The second day will see the best business coming from Delhi / UP, Gujarat and Bihar. The biggest drops are in the South with Mysore going down around 40%. The obituary of the film has already been written by the media but with 82 crore nett plus in two days the collections are very good till now and no film has ever collected this much over the first two days.

Addatoday says 28-29 and BOI says 32-34 for Day 2 of THUGS, which is an anomaly as the former is usually far more optimistic than the latter.

 

PRDP was 40.35 on Thu and 31.05 on Fri (-23%), so this would not be particularly good hold for THUGS. PRDP was no word of mouth monster and had average trending. It did 130cr + 85cr = 215cr total. 140-145cr + 65-75cr = 205-220cr for THUGS sounds reasonable.

Friday - 50,00,00,000 apprx

Saturday - 28,00,00,000 apprx

TOTAL - 78,00,00,000 apprx

 

It is a must for the film to see Saturday not drop further just for some respectability in the trend as it will be in freefall if Saturday goes down. The problem will be some centers will out of the holiday zone which will hit collections and it will be about the metro multiplexes to go up on Saturday.

 

No matter what happens now it is certain to be an under performing film with this day two number which makes it the second big one after Race 3. Both also had the two of three best dates of the year with Eid and Diwali. The other good date being Christmas.

Thugs pulling a Race 3. I think 2.0 will flop badly as well, especially in Hindi. It's trailer views are awful.

 

Zero needs good reviews, if it gets them I can see it being the biggest grosser of the year.

I just watched the single best trailer to come out of India this year. The Kannada movie KGF released its trailer in 5 languages today and it is pretty god damn awesome
