BoxOffice.com Presents... 1000 Movies to See Before You Die

Recommended Posts

Foreign Films are allowed, and the guy who is running this seems to have disappeared, but I'm sure he wouldn't mind someone submitting some more fims given that we have already eliminated quite a few.

Thanks. Do I have to look at the whole list so that I don't duplicate some choices?

Well, I looked at the list and there are a lot of movies that are on my "must/should watch list" already. But I'd liked to add a few more. And I'm gonna suggest some foreign movies also.

Many of these are my favorite or one of the best movies I've ever seen; while a few of them I feel deserve to be on the list cause of their lasting impression/impact on audience and popular culture.

1. Grease (1978)

2. A Better Tomorrow (1986)

3. Dirty Dancing (1987)

4. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000)

5. Ghost (2000)

6. Joint Security Area (2000)

7. Hero (2002)

8. Memories of Murder (2003)

9. The Aviator (2004)

10. The House of Flying Daggers (2004)

11. Mean Girls (2004)

12. The Notebook (2004) - I know that this one is rotten on RT, but I think it's a good movie. Also, IMO, it's one of the most influential and most popular movies in the romantic genre.

13. Good Night, and Good Luck (2005)

14. The Departed (2006)

15. The Host (2006)

16. Juno (2007)

17. Tropic Thunder (2008)

18. True Grit (2010)

I'm not gone :) I have football practice and school so I'm not on too much anymore! But I'm taking your suggestions into account! Does anyone have a game plan for elimination?

I can help with tallying the votes, just let me know what you need done.

The best way really to do this is to first reach the 1250 or 1500 cap originally planned for. Then, we go year by year and vote on which films to throw off the list. It will take a while, but it is the most ordered way of doing things. The first go-through should require a majority vote, with subsequent go-throughs lowering the threshold until we cut things down to 1000.

Agreed! It would be easier to vote films off! and the absolutely terrible ones (Grown Ups 2, Space Chimps, etc) can be removed now since we know they won't be on the list1250 would be the limit! And guys, remember that we're trying to make the list 50% crowd pleaders, 50% Oscar bait/art house. So don't get rid of every single popular film of the last 7 years because some (Avengers, DH Pt 2, HTTYD, etc) are excellent films even though they aren't the deepest. If Temple of Doom and Gremlins are worthy of the list, so should the great commercial films of today :)I'll start adding to the 1000 (I believe there was 25 extra films listed?)

Care to elaborate why Megamind and KFP2, of all movies, should be kept?

I like them, is that enough reason? :P I just went to my own personal rankings and looked at what I gave As and A+s to; I vote to keep those for now, they can be removed later

Yeah they're both films that should get removed at some point but there's other worse kids movies on here (Space Chimps 2, etc) so I don't mind them staying at the moment  :)
