BoxOffice.com Presents... 1000 Movies to See Before You Die

Recommended Posts

you also got point break listed as a film that came out 1967. it's 1991

my reaction to the films that people have selected so far. I have been intrigued to say that we got a lot of wise, Cultivated choices, many of you sticking to older films, which is not a bad thing at all. every film before the 90's I would say deserves to be there, but I must say it does seem like we(ESPECIALLY me  ) get a little carried away after the 00's. Some of these films listed I would probably rather eat my own skin rather then have to watch again(that may be a slight over-exaggeration. )  I guess i'l just get ready to vote off those films. Damn democracies never work, it always has and will be an argument. so vote for me you're king B) jk of course. although democracy is bullshit, but that's another story. So my point now, to try and mold it in. I believe some of you have chose sophistication over clear Lunacy. to this I say Bravo, put a hand on you're back! and may the next follow, I would really love to see the anatomy of the boxoffice forums develop taste and to learn from those with more insight and wisdom in film, I mean to me this is what life is about. Learning, need I say more. remember development is inevitable and how you do it can be crucial as is to how you turn out. most of us probably already know that, but one for the kiddies -_- and Pick more "GOOD" Films plz

Okay, here's my special thing. When I saw this thread, I thought it was pretty cool... but then I got to thinking: Sims just did the top 100 movies of all time and posted a list of everything voted on. Couldn't we just use the films voted there and make that the list of 1000 Movies to Watch Before We Die? Tbh, I like the idea of this thread a lot better than just doing that, but just to be curious, I figured it out from that list and made it chronological. The following includes every movie that got more than one point in Sims countdown. They are the alternate 997 Movies to See Before You Die.

so many great films in this list are missing, don't make me start naming them. I think we need to do another list, and if this one doesn't work out i'l just have to make my own.

Yeah, I watched Suspiria for the first time a week ago and it totally knocked me out (which was all the more satisfying after I didn't find anything very special in Deep Red, Argento's other film universally accepted as classic). The cinematography, production design and Goblin's score are nothing short of amazing.

Agreed, those are the two Argento films I've seen and they are both fantastic in there own ways. Deep Red was phenomenal as well, a fantastic slasher mystery that didn't disappoint as far as mystery's go, I mean it totally blew my pants off at the end, I don't wanna spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it, but I have to say this one did surprise me to say the least.

I wonder if there's another Argento film for me, completely forgot about him, mostly because his name is not mainstream and is only  spoken nowadays by Cult film lovers.

I thought Deep Red had no business running for over two hours (Suspiria's length, on the other hand, is perfect) and I wasn't very engaged with the mystery or the main characters, although they're undeniably two of the most sympathetic protagonists you'll find in a giallo film. The production value is there and Goblin's score is excellent, though, and I absolutely loved how Argento has the balls to

show you the killer's face within the first 20 minutes and then trust you not to notice/remember it.

Another Argento I've seen is The Bird with the Crystal Plumage, his debut and, in many ways, a precursor to Deep Red and to many giallo thrillers that followed in the early 1970s. It's imperfect but I actually might have enjoyed it more than DR (admittedly, my expectations weren't nearly as high), it's got a strong mystery, a good twist ending similar in its effect to the one from Deep Red, and it's shot by the great Vittorio Storaro, so it's visually striking as well. If you're a fan of Deep Red, I'm absolutely sure you'll enjoy it.

I definitely foresaw the twist ending maybe it was because I seen Deep Red already, I was almost expecting exactly what I saw, but this movie plays out less realistic and more humorous, let me explain, " You don't like cat?". simply the one part where

Sam was out talking to the painter dude who eats cats and the killer decides to give his wife julia a little visit. supposedly there was guards that were suppose to be watching the front door but I guess they were on smoke break or something. so the killer cuts the phone line and the power which are apparently outside the door right next to each other, and then the even crazier part where he starts to carve or stab away at the wood door to try and make a whole big enough or his arm to reach the lock and let himself in. if this isn't ridiculous enough we get to hear Julia screaming from the top of her lungs, tripping over stuff in her own place, she was just going berserk. I thought it was hysterical. and then Sam comes of course and the killer who apparently try's to kill him a couple times at the beginning decides to walk away? she could have turned the corner and stabbed that dude then had her way with the chick, i'm surprised nobody would have called the police after all the yelling and the power outages.

This was a decent film though, I enjoyed it thoroughly and found it very entertaining like you said. it had a good script the acting was decent, Music was decent not as good as Deep Red or Suspiria. this movie also didn't shock me as much

I knew the killer was a girl right from the beginning where they were talking about the woman who happen to be into other woman and then the next scene come and the killer slices this chicks clothes half off before she bled out. Now who's pretty much the only woman in this movie other then julia?

it was kind of predictable there wasn't much else in this story to drift me away from what they had revealed. Now in Deep Red, they left it a bit more in the air, for me anyway. It does have that similar plot twist elements though [

Oh and one more thing

it's kind of funny how she decides to play with sam quite a bit at the end of the movie, shes a woman who likes other woman that doesn't even seem to play with them much before killing them, just found that a little off.

but besides my nitpicking criticism I still enjoyed it a whole lot, like I mentioned before, Dario Argento is one unique Director who has a subtle way of showing his work, I don't know how many times I said this already but this movie is just enjoyable and I dig these kind of movies, even if there cheesy and predictable. There's a lot damn worse out there.

Really aside from 12 modern films, I don't think any of the films nominated from the 21st century are bad. Plus, this list isn't supposed to be like the real one - so there'll be more commercial films on here than the original. But I agree that the Squeakuel and Shrek 4 shouldn't have been nominated. And it's gonna take more than one vote to get a film cut off the list  ;)

so many great films in this list are missing, don't make me start naming them. I think we need to do another list, and if this one doesn't work out i'l just have to make my own.

Don't blame me; blame the people who voted in Sims' list. And I never said we didn't need to do another list; I plan on voting in this one later today.
