if you're going to nominate a David Ayer film weather he wrote or was directing go with Training day or Harsh Times, End of Watch is mediocre for the modern day at best. there's possibly 30-40 films in 2012 alone that are better films, I still think it was decent but not nearly as noteworthy as these(  Cloud Atlas, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Life of Pi, Lincoln,  Zero Dark Thirty, Silver Linings Playbook, Bernie, The Perks of being a Wall flower, Indie Game: The movie, Holy Motors, Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, Arbitrage, Detachment, Wreck It Ralph, The Dark Knight Rises, The Hobbit: an Unexpected journey, Argo, Prometheus, Promised Land, Dredd, John Dies at the End, The Grey, Safety not Guaranteed, Flight, God Bless America, Seven Psychopaths, Savages, Looper, Django Unchained).

if you're going to nominate a David Ayer film weather he wrote or was directing go with Training day or Harsh Times, End of Watch is mediocre for the modern day at best. there's possibly 30-40 films in 2012 alone that are better films, I still think it was decent but not nearly as noteworthy as these(  Cloud Atlas, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Life of Pi, Lincoln,  Zero Dark Thirty, Silver Linings Playbook, Bernie, The Perks of being a Wall flower, Indie Game: The movie, Holy Motors, Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, Arbitrage, Detachment, Wreck It Ralph, The Dark Knight Rises, The Hobbit: an Unexpected journey, Argo, Prometheus, Promised Land, Dredd, John Dies at the End, The Grey, Safety not Guaranteed, Flight, God Bless America, Seven Psychopaths, Savages, Looper, Django Unchained).

Well I agree and I'm trying to encourage everyone to start submitting pre-1970 films - in fact, after we get to 1000, all films submitted must be from before 1990 and after 1125, all must be from before 1970! I noticed that 75% of the list was the last 40 years and I'm taking action to show some of the older films.

I agree, although I think for this list, a film doesn't need to be great. However, it does need to be striking and/or unique. There are very few (non-great) Hollywood films in recent years that would fit the bill, though.
