We can include shorts?

In that case, I'm in favor of removing anything less than 45 minutes from the list (I think that's the point where Sundance decides you're a feature instead of a short). There's simply too many movies that'll lose out if 20 spots or so are taken up by short films (no matter how good they are). Just my two cents, though.

I think shorts should be allowed, but only if we believe they truly advanced the medium of film. Films like Trip to the Moon, Un Chien Andalou, La Jetée, and a few others deserve to be on the list. Shorts shouldn't take up any more than 10 spots, though.

Well certain shorts advanced filmmaking or were influential:1. Trip to the Moon2. Steamboat Willie3. Flowers and Trees4. Duck and Cover5. One Froggy Evening6. The Red Balloon7. What's Opera, Doc?8. Boys Beware9. Luxo Jr And we'll add La Juten to make it 10 shortsReally any of the others are just classic shorts whereas these all changed the medium or in Boys Beware's case, turned into the most unintentionally funny short ever after 30 years or so :)Speaking of which, I'll add Reefer Madness and Night of the Living Dead to the list!Really, once we start removing films from the list, there'll be plenty of room for any iconic films left

1) Jaws:  one of the most influential films of all time (1975)

2) Porky's: the start of the 80's teen films.  Animal House came before but didn't do it to the extreme the way Pork's did.(1982)

3) Fast Times at Ridgemont High:  (1982) One of the most influential American comedies of all time. Launched careers of Oscar winners Sean Pean and Forrest Whitaker

4) The Breakfast Club:  (1985):  The quintessential teen film.  No one writes like John Hughes.

5)Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974): The art of guerilla, low budget film making.  One of, if not the best horror film ever made.

6) Rocky: (1976) Not so much for the film (although it is one of the best of the decade) but for a true underdog story in real life.  Stallone's story should be told at film school for the next 500 years.

7) JFK (1991): It might not be a 100% true account of the assassination but it is 1000X more truthful than the Warren report.  One of the 5 best films of all time imo.

8) Nightmare on Elm Street (1984):  There are better horror films imo but none more influential.  Freddy is a cultural icon.

9) Mississippi Burning:  (1988): The best film of 88 imo, much better than Rainman.  The best civil rights film I've ever seen and Alan Parker's best work.

10) Terminator 2:  (1991) Cameron's most visionary film.  While not his best, his most iconic and the one with the loudest message.

11) Halloween (1978) the best horror film ever made imo

12) First Blood: (1982) The start of Rambo and one of the best action films of all time imo.

13) Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986): Arguably John Hughes' best film

14) Planes Trains and Automobiles (1987) Candy should have been nominated for an oscar and Hughes should have won for best screenplay.

15) Tombstone (1993): The best western film in the last 40 years and yes that includes Unforgiven.

16) Angel Heart (1987): One of the best directed, acted, edited and nuanced films.  Alan Parker's best imo.

17) Rounders:  (1998) The film that basically started the poker craze.

18) Clerks (1994) one of the best low budget films ever made.

19) Last House on the Left (1974): Craven's first film and without a doubt the most disturbing film I have ever seen.

20) Evil Dead: (1983) Started Sam Raimi's career

21) Indian Summer (1993): Terrific cast, terrific story and widely ignored when it came out.

22) Swingers (1996) Started Favreau and Vaughn's careers

23) Office Space (1999): Yea, I'm going to have to ask you to come in tomorrow too

24) The Ring (2002) A terrifying film and is all due to Verbinski

25) American Beauty (1999) one of the 5 best films of all time imo

I realize a lot of these might already be here.....but this is my list for now

I'll add more later and fix this up to code.

You might want to take a look at the current list Baumer,

Jaws, Breakfast Club, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Rocky, JFK, and Terminator 2 are already in the list.

Ok, thanks.  I'll revise.  I'll look at the list of films already on there once I'm done.  Then I'll revise it.
