chasmmi
Just wondering, but would characters who appeared in a TV series first, but later appeared in a film follow on from the TV series count? I'm mainly thinking Star Trek and Firefly characters here. I would say Star Trek Reboot yes. TV series movie version no. The latter is a TV show elongated for the big screen, the former is another cast's interpretation of said character. Arbitrary I know, but I have to draw some lines and am picking the best lines I can (or at least think I can)
chasmmi
btw, something i will often do in making a list is add say 3-5 alternatives so that if something is disallowed, the next one slots right in.

XenoZodiac
I think it would be best if you tell people to give a top 50 instead of top 100. You get smaller but more than adequate sample size to work with, more people will be inclined to participate and we'll get a better list. Doing anything more than a top 20 can be very tiring, and the last places will be filled with random characters.

Hatebox
What I don't want is somebody just picking James Bond because he is James Bond. I want people to think of the merits of actor x's portrayal of said character as with the Bond example there is more than one version of the role that I feel left a lot to be desired. So you're basically just asking for our favourite performance? EDIT - I notice Baumer had Ledger's Joker in his top ten, which I guess isn't allowed under these rules... baumer
Why would there be any confusion over the Joker? He's not real so he qualifies.
Hatebox
Why would there be any confusion over the Joker? He's not real so he qualifies. Apparently just saying 'Bond' isn't allowed because he's been played multiple times, so I'd have thought that would apply to the Joker as well. If a specific person playing the role is required, then all the thread is really asking for is our favourite performance. (Which is fair enough, that could be an interesting thread.) chasmmi
No it just allows to differentiate between different versions of a character too. It would be perfectly allowable for Ledger and Nicholson to both be in one person's list. James Bond could feasibly appear what 7 or 8 times? If somebody were to just say Batman, who are they thinking about when they say that. Clooney and Bales charactors are identical? If somebody hands in a vote that goes: 1: Batman - Clooney 2. Batman - Keaton 3. Batman - Kilmer 4. batman - Bale thats perfectly acceptable if that's how you truly feel. However if somebody just votes: 1. Batman I would ask them to clarify which Batman they are referring to.
