A Marvel Fanboy
In the Mood for Love #1 ? How do they rate all the movies ? And almost no Hollywood blockbusters in top 50 ... poor.
Dementeleus
I'd like to see the methodology of what lists/publications he chose to include and/or ignore. It seems very dubious if we don't even have a list of sources. (He mentions Sight & Sound but that's it).
CoolioD1
I see Crash at the bottom of the list there. The reviews for that weren't anything great or nothing. How did they figure the ranking for this list?
riczhang
Yeah how do they rank these? And there are some wild fluctuations, which isn't the best indicator of source integrity. Generally speaking the rankings shouldn't change too too much.
JohnnY
Spirited Away should be higher.
mahnamahna
Anchorman The Avengers How to Train Your Dragon ....how they didn't make the list yet Minority Report, Moneyball and Crash did... we may never know Edited October 19, 2013 by mahnamahna
rukaio101
Anchorman The Avengers How to Train Your Dragon ....how they didn't make the list yet Minority Report, Moneyball and Crash did... we may never know Anchorman is somewhat understandable since it had middling critical reviews (66% on RT), but those other two I totally agree with. I can only assume Crash is on there because it (very undeservedly) won a Best Picture Oscar.
Dementeleus
"Most acclaimed movies" does not mean "good, solid movies".
lilmac
I notice 300 isn't on the list. Hmm...
luna
the list had great fluctuations because of the sight & sound decade poll. and on the first page it says it is largely based on year-end polls from critics etc. also important to note that it's the most acclaimed list, not the ones with the most consensus - obviously something like mulholland drive has plenty of detractors but it's also considered a masterpiece by many. Fanboy
The Social Network is way too low. Should be top 5.
baumer
Melancholia is on the list. The list is rendered useless.
A Marvel Fanboy
I notice 300 isn't on the list. Hmm... And it certainly shouldnt be on. The Social Network is way too low. Should be top 5. How ? TSN is just one of the better Hollywood big drama. It is no match to top notch arthouse films。
mahnamahna
"Most acclaimed movies" does not mean "good, solid movies". In what world was "Crash" acclaimed? It's in the top 3 for worst BP winner of all-time. Who approved of the dialogue in that movie?!? Figures a long-time Facts of Life writer made this film The Avengers (93% RT) and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt. 2 (96% RT, 8.8 avg rating) are both universally acclaimed blockbusters, along with How to Train Your Dragon (98% RT). Despicable Me and Tangled are what I consider "good, solid movies"
lilmac
also important to note that it's the most acclaimed list, not the ones with the most consensus - obviously something like mulholland drive has plenty of detractors but it's also considered a masterpiece by many.More evidence this list should be on the nameless pile of previous rankings. lilmac
And it certainly shouldnt be on. How ? TSN is just one of the better Hollywood big drama. It is no match to top notch arthouse films。 Among acclaimed films, yes it should.
Hatebox
Melancholia is on the list. The list is rendered useless. Not a fan, I take it? I thought it was Von Trier's most accessible work by far...
The Stingray
Not a fan, I take it? I thought it was Von Trier's most accessible work by far... It is. But its still shit. Not even Kirsten's breasts can save it.
