Rio 2 OS thread

First one did 350m os, this one was supposed to crack 500m os alone.

Not sure exactly why. I always thought it would do around the same as the first. People liked the first, but they weren't screaming for more.

Screendaily"Rio 2 collected $62.3 million from its 19,394 screens in 62 markets, a result of its expansion to 54 new markets this weekend. The animated sequel has now grossed a total of $125.2 million overseas.A $12.1 million opening from 5,850 screens in China marked a 150% improvement over the original film, proving the sequel's potential in what could have been a potentially difficult market. Mexico scored an $8.7 million debut from 2,390 screens, making it the third highest Fox animation opening of all time in the market. France took a $4.6 million opening from 1,257 screens, a 20% boost above the original's premiere. UK enjoyed a $2.9 million hold from 1,100 screens, a 20% slide from last weekend's opening tally, to reach an $11.5 million cume in the market . Brazil continued to excel with a $2.2 million hold from 914 screens in its third weekend to reach an $18.9 million total in director Carlos Saldanha's home country.Rio 2 recorded the second highest industry opening for an animated film in India, only trailing Ice Age 4. The animated sequel openend in 466 screens to earn a $932k tally in its Indian debut, becoming the top ranked MPA title in the market over the weekend. The sequel's strong opening weekend ranks 112% higher than the premiere frame of the original.Rio 2 also recorded strong debuts from Colombia ($2.2M / 380 Screens), Argentina ($2M / 380 Sceens), Philippines ($1.5M / 200 Screens), Peru ($1.4M / 229 Screens), Central America ($1.4M / 207 Screens), and Chile ($1.3M / 145 Screens). The film expands to 7 new markets next wekeend."

So looks like this is Kung Fu Panda 2 over again.

 

KFP made $420m OS, KFP2 made $500m....

 

But KFP2 had a massive increase in China, and considering it had 3D, it is possible it made worse in attendance.

 

Looks like kinda the same story for Rio 2.

Rio 2 now stands at $201.5m. The animation held well in China on $7.5m from 5,500 screens to rank third on $23.2m after two sessions. Mexico generated $4.3m from 2,026 to rank second on $18.2m after the same amount of time.
 
A further $3.8m from 1,486 in France boosted the tally to $9.5m for second place after two, while an outstanding $2.2m number one hold in Argentina on 296 elevated the tally to $4.8m. Brazil produced $2.5m from 762 for number three on $22.6m after four.
 
Rio 2 opened top in Italy on $2.4m from 686. The UK and Germany both rank second and have generated $16.1m and $9.6m after three sessions, respectively.
 
Spain stands at $6.9m after three and ranks third, while Colombia has delivered an outstanding $5.3m after two and ranks number one.
