CAYOM Year 8 Part 2: BO Predictions (4th Quarter)

Recommended Posts

January 5-7

Due to the lack of compelling wide releases, The Once & Future King: The Queen Of Air And Darkness or The Rise And Fall Of Julius Caesar should take first place this weekend. Sam Raimi horror film The Good, The Bad and the Dead has been getting good reviews, but it's Western visual palette may hold it back a bit. We're expecting $18-21 million for a third place opening. Blood Brothers, a dramatic musical, wants to grab audiences attention for something to see during Oscar season, but people may go for the nominated fare instead. Expect around $11-13 million.

January 12-15 (MLK)

The first compelling weekend of the year. Unbalanced V is likely to take first place with something between $30-40 million for the three day and $40 million plus for the four day. Bloodbath Unite is another horror film opening, but it will most definitely be overshadowed. Expect around $10-12 million and $13-15 million for 3-day and 4-day. Finally, Hard To Find is a small family adventure opening under 2,000 locations. $10 million is probably tops.

January 19-21

Army Of Two: The Devil's Cartel is another January film trying to snatch the male audience demographic. Because of the saturated market, this should result in a lower opening than it's predecssor, but none the less impressive with $32-35 million. Chessman is a broad family movie trying to snatch kid audiences with it's original premise. Reviews have been good, so it should debut with $18-20 million. Hard To Find is expanding it's theaters this weekend, but with Chessman coming out it will be hard for it to increase. Instead, a decrease of 10% is likely to $7-8 million. French war drama 1944 - Part 1: Resistance is opening in 8 theaters this weekend, and it should have a PTA of $50k or lower.

January 26-28

Slenderman: The Beginning is a reboot of the successful Year 5 film Slenderman. Horror audiences have short attention spans, and after Unbalanced V and Bloodbath Unite dropping off quickly, something fresh is in store. Slenderman: The Beginning should gross $19-21 million. Ice Station 2: Area 7 is the follow-up to the popular action film Ice Station, which opened to $22 million last year. However, with Army Of Two 3 holding up from last weekend and keeping the male audience, it's going to be hard to follow up it's predecessor. It should gross $14-16 million. 1944 - Part 1: The Resistance is expanding to wide release, and it should earn around $9-12 million.

February 2-4

Overall, this is looking to be an average Superbowl weekend. Curling Men and We Are The Champions 2 are going to fight it out for football crowds on the biggest weekend of the sport's year. Curling Men is most likely to win out with $15-18 million. We Are The Champions 2 will most likely fight it out with Silent Invasion 3: The Attack, whic should fall in line with the rest of the series' grosses. Both are expected to end up in a wide range of $7-13 million.

February 9-11

Another crowded weekend, A Love To Die For will take first place with it's romantic action comedy premise. With the combined star power of Channing Tatum and Jennifer Lawrence, it should open to $19-23 million. FarmVille, despite the niche premise, may attract families, who have been neglected the first part of this year. It could open as high as $15 million. Demon: The Summoning, with Darkseed coming out next weekend and the already crowded horror marketplace, is bound to flop with $6-8 million.

February 16-19 (President's Day)

Darkseed is the first big horror event since Slenderman: The Beginning, but another horror film may be too much. However, the weird humor displayed in the previews may show a lighter side for date night crowds. It should open to around $21-25 million for the three day weekend and over $30 million in four days. Spinach Artichoke Dip looks like a fun action movie, and it could also prove to be successful, with $16-20 million in three days and $23-26 million in four days. Hush Hush Little Baby is definitely for the little tykes crowd, and may have trouble getting older kid audiences. It's planned to open around $12-14 million in three days and $16-19 million in four days.

February 23-25

This is one crowded weekend. Three new releases (excluding an expansion and a limited opening) will take flight. The biggest of the pack should be MirrorWorld, which should be the first big kids movie in a while with $23-27 million. Daniel Tosh: New And Improved should be successful due to the growing popularity of stand-up comedy in theaters, with $15-17 million. The Last Rider is presented as an exciting Sylvester Stallone sci-fi action thriller in marketing, but with the fading action movie industry, it may have trouble. But if Spinach Artichoke Dip can succeed, so can The Last Rider. It could make $14-16 million. Hush Hush Little Baby is adding nearly 500 locations, but it still should decrease quite a bit. Finally, The Guardian of the West should have a decent opening in limited release with a PTA of $30k or lower (under $400,000).

Ok. I just wanted to know if march is starting today/tomorrow/Wednesday and the hurry up was for the February predictions which you have done

We have no date planned for when we can predict March. It's just no one hasn't decided to do it yet.

This thread has been only open for half a day, and it'll probably stay open for a week.

Exactly. BO Predictions and Film reviews are usually spread out a bit. There's no rush, especially since we have to confirm with riczhang that he is still doing Year 8 actuals
