Jack Nevada
It's kinda hard to predict these, but here's IndieWire's: 1. Saudi Arabia - Wadjda, directed by Haifaa al-Mansour (Arabic) 2. Denmark - The Hunt, directed by Thomas Vinterberg (Danish) 3. Belgium - The Broken Circle Breakdown, directed by Felix Van Groeningen (Dutch) 4. Chile - Gloria, directed by Sebastian Lelio (Spanish) 5. Iran - The Past, directed by Asghar Farhadi (French, Persian) I've seen The Past and The Hunt (spectacular and gripping, respectively), and Wadjda about half way through. Jake Gittes
Wadjda is a very good and extremely likable movie, I wouldn't be at all surprised - or displeased - if it won. All the others also look like no-brainers on paper, although I'd expect The Great Beauty to sneak in there. Or is that not eligible? Fuck Broken Circle Breakdown, though. Seriously. Wadjda was good, I guess, but it didn't really grip me in any way. I found it pretty boring and ordinary. Did you see Beyond the Hills, Jake? That's a striking movie. thunder storm
I saw The Past. It's good but not great. I want to see also Wadjda and The Hunt. And obviously Child's Pose ( Romania ).
Ezen Baklattan
The Great Beauty (Based on Riczhang's fangirling for it) Wadjda The Past The Hunt Gloria I wish Blue would have been eligible. Did you see Beyond the Hills, Jake? That's a striking movie. Nah, I didn't catch it when it first appeared and then it kind of went off my radar. Thanks for reminding me. I gotta see 4 Months, 3 Weeks 2 Days one of these days as well.

Jake Gittes
It was released in France after October 1. That's the deadline I believe - had it come out in September or earlier, France could've submitted it for this category.
ChD
To be honest, I'm still rooting for something/someone that is Romanian to get a vote. We've been snubbed three times before... Child's Pose doesn't really look much like an Oscar movie, but I hope we finally produce something that is appreciated and gets into the Oscars. CoolioD1
OK, so I watched The Hunt and The Broken Circle Breakdown (according to In Contention these are the two most likely to win) and I liked both, neither are perfect, but they could both push the right buttons emotionally when they wanted to (except for whenever BCB tried to be politcal with the stem cell stuff, yikes.). Both have absolutely killer lead performances that I'd probably vote for in our awards thing too.
Jack Nevada
I really like The Hunt. The Past, one of the top 10 movies of the year, not making the shortlist is a travesty.
CoolioD1
I found The Past mediocre, so I can't say I'm too bothered by it.

CoolioD1
Not yet, I'll try to watch it in the next couple days though for sure. That's the one I keep hearing really good things about.
