Its really your usual crime flick but Deznel goes Scarface over the top here with line delivery and gesticulation 

 

Overall its worth seeing just for him ... even though this role sorta destroyed his acting ability afterwards since he squeezed a bit of Alonso into most roles he played since

I love this movie. It's my favorite Hollywood movie of 2001. And Denzel Washington, what a performance! Totally deserved of the Oscar win. Ethan Hawke was also amazing, maybe a more subdue performance, but great nonetheless. I always enjoy watching him in movies. Those two have very good rapport, which makes Training Day even more rewatchable for me. I have probably seen it over 20 times now. A

The 2nd half is kind of a mess story-wise, but boy Washington's performance is just worth the whole movie.

I watched this a couple of days ago. Don't see the point of it. Good performances definitely. Don't know why Ethan Hawke was submitted for supporting actor Oscar when he's the main character.

 

Lot of needless violence, didn't seem to carry out in a world I recognise or believe in.

 

Bit of a waste of time tbh. D
