One thing to keep in mind about Anchorman 2's cost, is that I don't think there's much of a question that it had a larger marketing push than a typical $50 m film.  Just some food for thought.

That's probably true, though unlike many other major tentpole marketing campaigns, I suspect that is limited to the domestic market.  As such, we're not talking $150M-$200M of distribution costs since international is sure to be lighter.

Hobbit keeps performing at ~85% of AUJ's grosses. I still think Gravity and Frozen will ultimately outgross it but 260m isn't anything to scoff at I suppose. Fine but ultimately underwhelming for Anchorman. I don't know why they went for a holiday release when summer could have guarenteed a 40m opening and strong weekdays. But I think it could probably finish in the 120-140m viscinity, which would still place it above Will Ferrell's average grosses. Frozen is a monster! It's now performing at more than double of Tangled's weekend takes. I can't put a cap on its run anymore because this has no competition until The LEGO Movie (I don't consider The Nut Job a threat). 300m could and might fall. Very solid opening for American Hustle. I'm curious how Wolf will affect it- they're gunning after the same exact audience but the marketplace always expands over the holidays. 100m seems assured and it could even challenge SLP, since everybody seemingly liked it a lot more than I did. Soft opening for Banks, but I think its limited opening predicted this. I'm sure legs will be very strong. This is just the beginning of Catching Fire's nice holiday bump. I still think it wins the year. LOL Dinosaurs. Congrats to Thor for (finally) crossing 200m. What the hell happened to Nebraska? Decent for Llewyn Davis and a good limited start for Her. These are the two best films currently playing. I would check them out.

I think at this point $300M looks like no question, the question is what number above $300M will fall?  $325M?  Maybe $350M?

Hard to say, but $300M seems like the floor at this point.  More than double Tangled's dailies is hard to ignore, and that film did like $75M more past its comparable saturday.

Why is Anchorman projected to have the best Sunday drop among all films?

I smell something that starts with 'f'.

The 5 day figure with that projected drop is 40,000,000$.

Such a nice round figure wouldn't you say (and I am not talking about Vidya Balan  ;) )
