Kalo
There are only like four directors I consistently like or have seen enough of their films to make a list Peter Jackson, J. J Abrams, Christopher Nolan and Steven Spielberg. Edited January 5, 2014 by kalo21
baumer
It's kind of hard to have those guys on my list when A) I hated The Host and besides Amour, I haven't seen any of Haneke's either.

luna
so i've decided for any list with less than 11 directors they all get just 1 point. so squaremaster, is this your final list? 1. Christopher Nolan 2. Stanley Kubrick 3. Hayao Miyazaki 4. Akira Kurosawa 5. Paul Thomas Anderson 6. David Fincher 7. Quentin Tarantino 8. Coens 9. Steven Spielberg 10. Darren Aronofsky FYC: however, i have just got out straw dogs, so we'll see.
AniNate
I limited my list to directors who made at least five films, otherwise some more recent ones would've been on my list.

You should see THE WILD BUNCH -- it's his best film. RIDE THE HIGH COUNTRY is good as well, and THE BALLAD OF CABLE HOGUE is delightfully off-beat. chasmmi
It's kind of hard to have those guys on my list when A) I hated The Host Have you seen any of Park's films like Oldboy, Stoker or JSA? JSA is about as good as filmmaking gets in my opinion. Oldboy gets all the attention though because of the story and some the the famous scenes. Still a great film though, just perhaps my 4th favourite of his.
Jessie
Anyone who puts Christopher Nolan at number 1 deserves a slap in the face and a movie history lesson. He isn't even the best of this era. Give him 20 years and then he might be able to be placed higher on the list but as of now he his still leagues below Spielberg and Tarantino IMO. Letsuseournoggin
Seriously, I am thoroughly impressed that some of you can even come up with 100 directors. That's pretty crazy. I can come up with a top 30 I would feel comfortable with. 50 if I really set my mind to it, maybe. But 100? No go. Kudos to you film junkies.

Pedro Almodóvar30. Alfonso CuarónReally? This is an odd and pretentious choice imo. Duncan Jones for example has made only 2 movies, Moon and Source Code yet according to your list, he is better than the likes of Spielberg, Nolan, PJ, Cameron, all of which have easily more than 2 movies to the regime that are better than anything Duncan has done.
