Hope this reaches $1B cause it’s the swan song for Daniel Craig. The best Bond ever. Deserve to get that final achievement for the sake of him.

I remember reading back in 2018 that EON and MGM are hoping for this one to hit $1 billion too, which was part of why Universal have the intl. distribution rights (Furious 7, Jurassic World, and Fate of the Furious have all hit $1 billion overseas).

you're gonna have to wait until 26 for that haha

I'm definitely surprised they looked at the reception to Spectre and though "ok, let's have a lot more of his girlfriend's backstory and the Blofeld stuff", but maybe the trailer's just doing the film a huge disservice.

I think it speaks to EON’s confidence in the material that NTTD will tie up Spectre’s loose ends.

No Time To Die should safely cross $800m, and settle in as the #2 earning Bond film behind Skyfall. I don't think Skyfall will be topped, given the confluence of events that led to that film's success (50 year anniversary, Adele's popular song, stand alone/character driven story, Javier Bardem)

Unless this film is as well produced and cohesive as Skyfall (which I currently doubt, given NTTD's troubled production history), Billie's song is as attention-grabbing as Adele's (that's a big ask for a teenager), and Rami Malek's antagonist transcends the genre (I freaking love Rami but acknowledge he's not yet reached the global appeal of Bardem), this film will fall just short.

Normally, one would think the "finale factor" would boost NTTD, but given the nature of Bond films (just keep recasting the role), I don't think NTTD would benefit greatly from Craig departing. Die Another Day was the highest earning film for Pierce (but not if you adjust for inflation, GoldenEye wins). I am unable to determine if DAD was produced or marketed with the knowledge that Pierce was leaving the role.

Also, the rest of the NTTD marketing campaign needs to establish the character stakes instead of leaning on what seems to be a complicated plot with lots of moving pieces. The teaser was all over the place (gotta love Universal's marketing team!). Final trailer needs to hone in on Bond's personal journey.

I'm going to predict $85m OW, $225m DOM, $900m WW. I could see the international numbers being lower if this film is more Americanized.

They were negotiating with Brosnan for a bit, with some rumors saying for two more films.  But they decided after some months to "go another way."  So no, DAD was not marketed as Brosnan's final film.  Brosnan in fact wanted to do more.

Great analysis overall.

The troubled production history mainly centered on Danny Boyle’s departure. The story and screenplay that eventually became NTTD is an original pitch from Cary Fukunaga. Even with additional scripting from Neil Purvis, Robert Wade, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Scott Z. Burns we can’t really say that NTTD isn’t as “well produced or cohesive as Skyfall.”

Skyfall was not without it’s own hiccups:

Original script from Peter Morgan was re-written by Purvis and Wade.

That screenplay was later polished by John Logan

Production was suspended when MGM ran into financial trouble

Die Another Day wasn’t marketed as Brosnan’s last Bond film because it wasn’t intended to be his last.

Anybody thinking Super Bowl spot? No idea how the marketing works considering distribution but Universal is doing overseas and they do SB spots

I think they’ll have a Super Bowl spot. Also, I anticipate heavy TV marketing during March Madness college basketball in the US.

I’m pretty confident this will be a masterpiece as it should for Daniel Craig’s last outing given the track record of His bond films from Casino Royale. This is what I mean :

1st Casino Royale : Masterpiece

2nd Quantum of Solace : Turd

3rd Skyfall : Masterpiece

4th Spectre : Turd

5th No Time to Die : Masterpiece!!??

I think EON (the producers) works best when their backs are against the wall. They know the stakes and deliver every time no one thinks they can.

I really like Craig as Bond, but still think Connory was the best 007. And in some ways I think Timothy Dalton was as good as Craig; problem was Dalton never got a script as good as the better ones "Casino Royale" "Skyfall" that Craig got.

They also know when to make changes; With both "Moonraker"and
"Die Another Day" athough both were sucesseful  they knew they had gone too far out there with the sci fi angle, and brough 007 back to earth with "For Your Eyes Only" and "Casino Royale" which had very little in the way of sci fi elements. It's one thing to make changes after a film in a franchise bombs;another to see that although you got away with it  this time, you had better not push your luck. The latter is pretty rare in the film industry.

Fact is, every 007 film made by Eon has made a good profit; even the ones that disappointed at the box office like "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" "Man With The GOlden Gun" and "Licence to Kill" made a good profit.
