No Time To Die | October 8 2021 | 82% on RT | RIP Sean Connery

So, I made up statistics about James Bond age demo viewers, and I wasn't far off, if Spectre's OW audience breakdown is on point for this one (and really, if James Bond's audience just aged up 6 years, I could be exactly on point)...from Deadline...

"however Spectre had Peanuts beat in that regard winning over 35% of adults over 50 (to Charlie Brown’s 10%) and 78% over 25 (to 54% over 25)."

Aka - with the way 50+ are going to the theater, this is the movie to kick - and I wouldn't keep it in 2021, since it doesn't have a new Bond yet, either, so it's not a "must get out b/c of the pipeline" movie...

this movie will be novel in that it is the first time a Bond actor will get a proper send off film

Connery got into spats with the producers.

• Lazenby was a one-and-done.

• Moore eventually got too old.

• Dalton got fed up waiting for the legal battle between MGM and UA to conclude before Goldeneye got off the ground.

• Brosnan was shafted without knowing that Die Another Day would be his last.

Lazenby was offered a 7 movie deal to play James Bond. His agent convinced him to turn it down because he advised that Bond was dated and archaic (in the then 1970s). So he just did On Her Majesty's Secret Service in 1969 and here we are about to be 20 Bonds later with No Time to Die.

I think those figures are a bit wonky to be honest. If they’re accurate, then there’s never going to be a good time to release it, there’s a reason why film and TV companies are obsessed with the 18-49 audience range and that’s who they make big budget films for. If James Bond appeals mostly to 50+ audiences then that’s an inherent problem with Bond itself that can only be fixed with a fresh new Bond actor and take on the character.

I take issue with Deadline’s figures because you don’t make over a billion in 2012 with Skyfall and 900 million in 2015 with a mediocrely reviewed Spectre if your film series mainly appeals to 50+. The younger audience is there, and with it being the first big budget blockbuster in 5 weeks, I’d bet they’ll turn out for it.

Look, we've always accepted that one thing Deadline is good at is actual audience breakdown numbers by age and race...and if you look at that post, the breakdown stayed the same the whole weekend, so 50+ kept being a large percent...

And I'm actually disappointed I couldn't find a breakdown on race for Spectre, b/c if whites and Asians were the dominant categories there, this movie could be in even more hurt, b/c older whites and Asians are probably the last group to head into theaters...

GoldenEye and that Yamaha soundtrack is terrible. People were into that?

Goldeneye was and is totally badass. It was exactly what the character needed at that moment.

Goldeneye was always my favourite until CR. Just let Martin Campbell direct all the reboots

Would be very fitting if Martin Campbell's last ever movie would be the first movie for the next Bond actor.

Around $200m US, $300-400m internationally, higher end if it can get China.

Hoping for the best. Want it to at least beat QoS and Casino Royale. I think it's gonna be great so WOM should be good, but I do think the constant delays have hurt the movie's awareness among the General audience. That new trailer(s) that they put out barely made a splash
