I mean that's from Goldeneye, not the Connery or Moore films. The Brosnan era was always far milder than either of those.

It’s amazing how badly Licence to Kill flopped in the domestic market in 1989, and how much better Goldeneye did in 1995 in terms  of tickets sold

1989 was an insanely competitive summer + it had a famously awful marketing campaign hindered by a last minute title change.

There was a lot of competition but it's one thing to be beaten by Batman, Indy or even Lethal Weapon 2 and Ghostbusters 2 but it was smoked by Turner & Hooch and came in under Karate Kid Part III.  It opened 4th - in between the 4th weekend of Honey I Shrunk The Kids and a Peter Pan re-release.

Living Daylights had fewer admissions than Moore's swan song nadir -  A View To A Kill   - so I gather they wanted to switch things up in terms of tone and style  but it was also not what most of the audience wanted in a Bond.  Too high on grit and blood - too low on glamour and style.  At the time because of the low stakes, heavy drug and crime angle it was called Miami Vice Bond - but MV (exec produced by Michael Mann) had more style and people could watch it for free on TV every week .

I liked Skyfall a lot when I saw it on the opening day in theaters, but it hasn't aged very well for me. The third act is bloated and bit of a chore to sit through.

A big problem I have with Skyfall is how utterly sexless it is for a Bond movie.  While its overall a good action movie with a great villain, there is only one Bond girl and shes in the movie for maybe a total of 5 minutes with little bearing on the plot before being disposed of after an abrupt shag.  This is what puts it decisively below GoldenEye and Casino Royale for me, both of which have arguably the best Bond girls in addition to being overall great movies.  Spectre was a bit of a rebound in that regard but overall the movie wasn't the strongest, though miles ahead of QoS.

How could you ignore the great Judy Dench? The plot was all about her history with the villain and it literally came down to protecting her. She gave the franchise arguably it's most powerful and emotional ending. I think it was cool how they basically gave her the Bond girl role, minus the shags of course

Fun fact. A Bond girl came closest to killing Bond than anyone else that whole movie.

And what about the sexual chemistry and romance with Silva ??

007 Producer Barbara Broccoli has said she will not begin thinking about who will replace Daniel Craig as the next James Bond until 2022.

Speaking on BBC Radio 4’s Today program, Broccoli joked that she was “in denial” about Craig leaving after his five-film stint.

“We want Daniel to have his time of celebration,” She added. “Next year we’ll start thinking about the future.”

Appearing alongside Broccoli on the program, fellow Eon producer Michael G. Wilson added that Craig was leaving some “big shoes to fill”.

I actually rewatched Skyfall over the weekend and liked it much better than I remembered - and I remembered liking it a good amount! I thought it was absolutely terrific and handily one of the best blockbusters of the decade. That said, Casino Royale probably the best blockbuster of the entire 21st century (yup), so it still wins this round for sure.

As a poker player, the last hand in CR is so funny in retrospect. Only in movies!

It's a insanely ridiculous final hand but it's more cinematic than Bond bluffing Mads with a 2-7 offsuit I guess

Though now that I think about it, Bond bluffing with nothing, Le Chiffre calling and pushing him all in with both players' cards face up, and Bond getting saved on the river would be extremely cinematic
