I think it;s possiblem but with Covid not probably.

A lot of people here are really underestimating the popularity of James Bond, because they can't see beyond CBMs frankly.

Has nothing to do with that and everything to do with Covid.

I get you, but here in the UK, the hype has made it seem like Covid is a non issue. The way it's taken over all media outlets you'd think cinemas had just reopened. You won't feel the same hype in the US

I guess its been 6 years since the last Bond movie, people have forgotten how big it is internationally. This one feels like a bigger deal than Spectre and Covid doesn't seema to be as rampant as it was when films like F9 opened

Well seems like it's a little divisive indeed.

83% with 99 reviews, despite that is holding at a very strong 7.60 average, not very distant of Casino or Skyfall.

With top critics is even weirder, is at 73% with 33 reviews but 7.80 average.

There were a lot of 10/10 reviews at first.

I know, but the average didn't change in the last 50 reviews despite the percentage dropping.

There's lots of +80 recent reviews, and the many rotten grades doesn't have Bad scores either. This probably explains the situation.

There still are a good amount of 10/10s and 5/5s. I know Mick LaSalle of the San Francisco Chronicle gave it a 4/4 and that got added on metacritic in the last couple hours.

It's divisive for sure, but there are a lot of people that LOVED it. It's not just skating by with 3/5 star reviews to hold onto the fresh rating

It's partially also because most of the US top critics don't give grades (unlike their UK counterparts) - so their negative reviews can't bring down the avg.  Which is why it's still 7.8 among top critics while down to 73%.

The RT score has dropped 5% with the last 32 reviews (69 to 101)... don't like that trend in the long run. Could see this settling near 75%. The YouTuber Calvin Dyson (his entire channel is about James Bond, I've found him to be an informative, entertaining, and objective Bond fan) thinks this film will be very divisive among Bond fans.

Spectre is mostly fine, I don't get why that movie triggered a lot of people.  Obviously its not another taut classic like Casino Royale and Skyfall, it stumbles a bit in the third act with the villain and its unnecessary attempt to link all the movies together like some MCU, but its a beautifully shot movie with good set pieces and character moments.  I also liked Lea Seydoux(who is apparently a lot better in NTTD).  Its one of those movies where one more pass over the screenplay could've made it really great - unlike Quantum of Solace which was a complete mess from conception and poorly shot/edited.  Mark Kermode's review nailed it.

Brofeld is what really ruined Spectre for a lot of people. It really was one of the dumbest twists in film history

Brought this up in the Dune OS thread but have a ahrd time not seeing this be divisive, espesciially among Bond fans.

This is true and something I have discussed a number of times.. It's crazy we never got a "here's Bond on a mission" type movies in the Craig continuity after the Brosnan one was just that

Yup, I like Skyfall but that always bugged the hell out of me. They wanted it both ways and it's jarring if you rewatch them in order.

Everyone knows Goldfinger, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, The Spy Who Loved Me, Goldeneye and Casino Royale are the best. From Russia With Love, Tomorrow Never Dies, and Skyfall have their moments too.

"FATIMA BLUSH" DISAGREES!   Best Bond scene ever in the "unofficial" worst movie of them all.  😁

The answer is very simple:  Broccoli/Wilson were never quite sure if Craig was going to do more than three.

So SKYFALL was set up as a possible narrative finale, itself (and of course it definitely was for Dench's "M").

There was also the dangling carrot of a possible Connery cameo...and some rumors say that it got much farther than Mendes admits.
