It seems like South Korea's market just never really recovered. I remember in early Covid days thing were looking good for Tenet, but then had a massive surge there, so it hurt Tenet in SK. I don't think they ever really recovered. I may be wrong

Yep. Korea was first one to return to normalcy in July 2020 with two local movies doing big and then TENET looking to do well, but then struck the CoVID wave again the week TENET released.

That lead up to slow winter but by end of January we had Soul and Demon Slayer which both did really well doing 2M+ admits, by F9 the market was coming back to normalcy. BW was looking to get 4M+ admits, the CoVID strike again.

Anyways, Asia except Japan don't really matter much for Bond. Skyfall did $11M in India while Spectre did $9M. In normal times, NTTD would have perhaps done $8M.

Yeah but better than rest of Asia. I may be wrong here but its tough to match the previous era Bonds because back then Bond may be the top gun of the genre, now when Mission Impossible exists which resonate better with Eastern world, Bond starts losing.

I think is nothing to do with Mission impossible,Bond was the speical mark of that time, when we trun the time back to the cold war era,Bond was a hero and spirit leader for people,he saved the world for several times and people think he is a symbol of peace and safe, but when cold war had over, people didn't need Bond anymore.I think that's the real reason that Bond was not popular in Asia and Latin America anymore

Skyfall made bank everywhere. It feels like Spectre somewhat affected the franchise's reception in people's minds. I'm a Bond fan but Rogue Nation was easily the better spy thriller/action movie that year. Say what you will about Brosnan's era, but the man was having a blast in the role and his movies provided fun escapism that people still expect from a Bond movie.

Missions Impossible has more consistency than Bond but will never be more popular. Bond's best is also better than MI's best. Spectre won't put anyone off the franchise. QOS was far worse yet it's sequel blew up. Bond just performs differently

Bond is a different beast than any other franchise where the trailers and its current reception play the overwhelming role in people wanting to see it. They see them as standalone movies even though they're not.

Was Lea introduced in Spectre? I have yet to see that one.

NO Time To Die is more and more of personal bond movie than what audience expect from a bond movie

Story is wafer thin and screenplay is painfully slow , runs more on interconnection of characters & melodrama with limited action , even things at stakes seems silly & uninteresting , only people who are etched into bond movies can connect with it.

Though limited , action sequences are extremely well composed but not thrilling and no where to bond level.

Performances are top notch , but despite the run time all main characters (Female leads , Villains) are totally under utilised.

Cinematography , lighting is stunning but didn't have many wide or long shots needed for a Bond Film to take the feel of gorgeous locations and impressive ART WORK.

Ending is silly , rushed , unnecessary and forceful , doesn't get the intended emotion or output it wants , again only people who are etched more into Bond only may connect.

How I felt right after first viewing

Casino Royale 4.5/5 G.O.A.T

Skyfall 3.25/5 Good

No Time to Die 2.75/5 Strictly Average

Spectre 2.5/5 Below average

Quantum of Solace 2/5 Flop

You know Bond is a special pull when something as shit as Spectre managed to outgross MI Fallout. It's one of the biggest and longest running movie franchisee of all time

Skyfall blew up because the year was the 50th anniversary of Bond. The coverage was everywhere, numerous channels around the world were marathoning Bond movies. We even had the 50 Years of James Bond exhibition that was hugely popular. On top of that, Adele's song caught on like wildfire. So it was really a unique situation that erased lackluster QOS from people's memory.

NTTD boxoffice is too early to judge but it's advantage is "end of Craig era".

The villain being poor sounds disappointing. I don't think people will care about unutilised female leads given its James Bond. Skyfall after all savagely killed off it's only Bond girl and it's their biggest hit. The one thing I feel has been a mistake is making this a semi sequel to Spectre. Why add them shackles? Bond always does better when it's get to start its own new story
