Didnt care for this much. There was a lot of disapproval vocally from my audience for the ending as well.

 

It just felt like it could have been a tight enjoyable movie at like 2 hours, but instead it's an almost 3 hour long slog that I felt every single minute of. 

 

I'm still left with only really loving casino royale, while the rest of the Craig films were ranged from only okay to bad for me.

In fairness, I really liked Mission: Impossible III, so I wouldn't be too opposed (that said, it'd be a wise move to keep him as director-only, though).

Agree with Taylor (who falls in the Marc Foster realm of unwise decisions), but wonder why you think Branagh is "nightmare"?  Honest question.  For me, Branagh is these days basically a "journeyman" director in the vein of some of these other guys...he's a Welles-type (not that anyone will ever be Welles) who had his shot at Shakespeare numerous times, and has toiled around since doing gigs for money to fund his smaller passion projects.  He's still a very, very smart guy.  And he's done big-action (Thor, Jack Ryan), though some can feel free to argue how creative or not it was... I personally love the first THOR, and I think a lot of that is due to Branagh giving some gravity.

I’m a but bummed that this underperformed in the US. I guess the total will be 150-160 million $.

 

Outside the US, hmm… If I assume it takes 60 million $ in China and 450 million $ elsewhere, I guess we’re looking at “Casino Royale” ww numbers, more or less.

The domestic total depends on how good the legs are. If it holds like Spectre did we could see it finish up with around $155-$160 million total; Skyfall or Die Another Day-type legs would give a total close to, or slightly above, $190 million.

I think Branagh might work as M although I wouldn't mind a new female M played by say Olivia Colman. Not sure if the Broccolis would ever hire him as a director though, they tend to pick directors who aren't traditional action directors. 

 

It depends on how Meg 2 goes but I wouldn't mind Ben Wheatley directing a Bond film.

Even though he's done some action, I wouldn't call Branagh an 'action director' at all... if that is what you're saying.

Finally saw this and thoroughly enjoyed it. Very refreshing to see a sequel actually commit to what the lackluster previous film was doing, even when the decisions in it didn't go down very well. Gotta love a big, weird and messy epic.
