Weird holiday with 30% of the theatres closed yesterday. TASM2 still on Top but decreasing 22% from last Thursday. Rio2 in second, up 60% from last Thursday!!! Decent opening for Fading Gigolo in third. Not good for Muppets 2 on the fourth place.

As of April, 2014 has been an awesome year. 2m admissions more than last year. It gives 2014 a good increase to absorb the decrease that will come in June because of the World Cup.

Year / Admissions

2014  15.301.904 (Around $81.5m)

2013  13.214.872

2012  13.789.697

2011  14.133.075

2010  12.930.447

The funny thing is this year only 2 movies sold move than 1m tickets and last year at this time 4 movies did that...

Yesterday was the worst Thursday of the year. As expected all the holdovers fell between 60-70% from last week (holidays). The Other Woman opened poorly (also in Chile, Bolivia and Uruguay). TASM2 still leads but I think Rio 2 is going to win the weekend because Spidey is falling harder. Yesterday the sum of the Top 10 movies is less than $0.20m. It looks like it's going to be a very weak weekend. :sadno:

Maybe people are waiting for Godzilla next Thursday!!  ;)

Rio 2 won again on Monday and it passed 1.4m admissions!! Rio sold 1.65m admissions back in 2011. It looks like Rio 2 could reach that total at the end of it runs or at least get pretty close. There are no animated movies being released until HTTYD2 on Jun, 19th; but Maleficent could hurt Rio 2 on May, 29th.
