Sea of Trees (Van Sant/McConaughey/Watanabe) Sea of Boos at Cannes

Recommended Posts

Having your movie boo'ed when you attend the screening must not be a pleasant experience.

But that s what makes Cannes Cannes even if " scandals" are rare these days.

The last legendary Cannes screening was probably Gaspard Noé s Irreversible back in 2002 with people literally screaming at the screen during THE scene...

I dunno...wasn't Inglourious Basterds or some other great movies booed there?

Sure, so was tree of life. but they weren't getting the embarrassing reception from journalists that this thing is. Just had the ending spoiled as well and it sounds like the most bullshit nicholas sparks thing in the universe.

It isn't the Cannes Film Festival unless at least one movie gets booed.

As I said, it is part of Cannes history and myth.

You had a french director who won the palme d or in 1987, the whole theater booed him, he insulted the room back and gave them the finger.

The screening you will hear about the most this year will be , again, Gaspar Noé's screening of Love, his longtime dream, doing a porn melodrama.

The reviews for this are deliriously scathing all around. I wouldn't worry about Van Sant though. Anyone who is able to survive Even Cowgirls Get the Blues (a film so godawful that its horrible reception at the Toronto Film Festival forced the studio to pull its original Fall 1993 release date and dump it the following summer) can survive anything.
