I'm a bit worried but remember Age of Extinction started off with a 100/100 and Cars 3 started with a 30/100.

I got that first trailer half a dozen times over the past few months and it looks (and more importantly sounds) like death. Self-aware humor at its most insufferable. And I liked both previous Lego movies.

If it gets similar reviews to Cars 3 or Storks then it'll be fine, I'm not expecting Lego Batman or Lego Movie reviews.

Feeling 30-35 ow / 3.3-3.4x / 100-120 dom. Maybe a similar amount OS. Still surprised Lego Bat did only 136 OS. Maybe the humor is too 'American' as it tends to focus on pop-culture.

Considering Lego Bat's budget was 80m, this can't be much more. Just guessing 55-65m.

Ninjago is probably $60-70m similar to Storks and the first Lego Movie. It doesn't look as pop culture heavy compared to Lego Batman and the Lego Movie which might help its chances OS. $35-40m would be solid IMO considering apart from Hotel Transylvania 1 and 2, no other animated films in September has done more than $34m OW

Uhm well it seems like the first score on Critics' Choice is 20/100. Not saying it's time to panic but that is shockingly low.

(since Kingsman was recently mentioned I'll just throw in that opened at 100)

Holy shit lol

I think it'll do pretty well this opening weekend.  We haven't had much available fare for families for the past month so they should be ready to go to something new.  Whether that'll hold up with more releases coming out soon is something we'll have to see.

Okay. I'm starting to think that serviceable animated films are getting marked down just because critics have insanely high standards.

(Disclaimer: this certainly does not apply to The Emoji Movie, which is terrible regardless.)

Now let's panic AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Some tweets from the premiere. Seems that it's fun but not as good as the previous two Lego movies. 65%-78% on RT is likely.

Wednesday is WB's normal embargo lift time. It's kind of refreshing that they lift the embargoes on Tuesday or Wednesday of release week for all their movies (apart from really horrid ones like The House which they knew would be trashed badly), so we cannot form any kind of narrative based on when reviews are held until. From summer onwards, apart from The House, every other movie including Arthur, Everything Everything, WW, Dunkirk, Annabelle (minus the few early reviews), IT etc. all lifted embargoes on late Tuesday or Wednesday. It's a smart gambit, make it the default and that will become a default.

Lego Batman was Sunday but it had screened in some countries before the embargo due to weekend previews.
