As an Australian BO neophyte, can you tell me why it did not have midnight shows? I assume because of the holiday but just to confirm.

Worth noting that, IIRC, many cinemas weren't open till 12PM. Same for NZ.

Yes, the holiday.  No trading was allowed between midnight and 10am to 1pm depending on the state.  Meaning in some states there were no sessions before 1pm.

 

Actually, cinemas for half the population didn't open till after 1pm.

Lots of theatres yesterday basically ended up basically only running IW come later afternoon/evening   with a scattered very few sessions, there was one complex that post 4pm had one session of another film every other session was IW

Looking back TA went like this.

 

WED - $6m

THU - $2m

FRI - $2.7m

SAT - $4.6m

SUN - $4m

 

I might be off a few hundred thousand for some of the days but the total is accurate.

 

IW

 

WED - $8.7m

THU- $4.5-5m

Midnights are not generally  public knowledge, Its was more like 2.8m

TFA less midnights - $6.65m

IW with no midnights - $8.7m

TA didn't have midnights in Victoria at least in 2012, our first session was at 1:30pm. So at least for 30% of the market yesterday was a good comparable. 

 

Which still makes $8.7m insane!
