Not bad- unhinged down 20% from last week. Probably shows the real impacts. Movies will play for longer than that Initial big opening.

peninsula looks like it’s DOA here. Looks low even for the current market.

The big test will be in 2 weeks when tenet opens.  Remember this is all happening without Victoria right now. Hoping NSW can avoid the same fate as VIC. appears QLD is avoiding for now 🤞

That’s down from about 440k the previous weekend. Pretty good for Unhinged against the opening of Tenet.

I just commented on the performance of a holdover against a new opening. It’s been a while.

2.5m start is pretty good given this is without Victoria (20-25% of the market) and capacity is limited to 50% in most of the country.

in normal times I feel like this would like a 8m ow. It’s all about legs from here...

ok so previous weekend and weekly updates....

So from the previous week we had a 34% decline from the opening weekend.  given that was likely muted slightly from the previews, i'm not seeing this as a great hold in this enviroment - the belief that while the OW was lower due to COVID impacts (no victoria currently, and limitations on capaciity) , while it's broughts the amounts down, i guess the hope here was it the film would hold better and longer - that hold isn't much better than normal for films like this here.

Anyway, Bill & Ted Face the music opened on Thursday (and no we don't have the streaming option here) so will be interesting how this all plays out.

not bad considering we still don’t have VIC open and limitations on tickets.

Tenet up to nearly 10m here (like making 100m normally in the US. still probably running less than half or even a third of what it could make here. But a reasonable result in that context.

Trolls closing on 3m so far. Having a neat little run.

Prob stay as top 2 (trolls/tenet) until honest thief opens on the 22nd (assuming it holds there).

Also are MGM trying troll us here. No Time to die release date in Australia.... April 1st, 2021 🤔🤦‍♂️

Edit - 1 week old data 😂. No weekend results till tomorrow (long weekend everywhere accept Victoria )🤦‍♂️

TENET

Week 0: $1,485,951

Week 1: $3,161,346

Week 2: $2,057,581 (-35%)

Week 3: $1,376,020 (-33%)

Week 4: $1,108,737 (-19%)

Week 5: $989,378 (-11%)

6th Weekend: $630,000 (-8%)

Total: $10,808,968

20% drops will take it to $14.5mn. That's a great result considering 30% of market is closed, adjusting for that, it will be equal to Interstellar $21mn closing. Also, 6th weekend is almost par Interstellar $680k. Lack of competition helping it big time.

You feel like it would be a different narrative rn  if Tenet had been able to perform at a similar level in the USA.  Sadly it hasn’t...  really not sure how theatres here will survive if cinemas are starved of major Hollywood releases for a long period.

Yeah definitely. The narrative is sadly built by Domestic box office, with rarely international box office on center stage. In fact if say Dom had done well but OS so-so, the narrative would have been positive. Instead of 60:300, if it was say 140:220, media would have been very positive.

can't blame studios either. US is slowest responder to reopening all across. Even Canada has done much better at it. if US don't work, studios won't release films.
