"Star Wars: The Force Awakens is already shaping up to the second-largest, if not the largest, box office hit ever in Australia, according to cinema bosses, who expect it will break the $100 million mark

 

Pre-sales for the hotly-anticipated movie, which premieres in Sydney on Wednesday night, are already over $15 million with Hoyts chief executive Damian Keogh predicting it will break the first-week box office record currently held by Harry Potter and the Deadly Hallows Part 2, which grossed $29.3 million. Experts are predicting Star Wars' latest instalment will reach first-week sales of between $35 million and $40 million."

We are getting a lovely heat wave in Melbourne, Thursday through to Saturday (39C), so that should help drive sales even higher here!

 

Midnights ended up 25% higher at my site then the HP7.2 and SW3 midnights did. Tomorrow already has a ridiculous amount of tickets sold. Over $40k for Saturday too!

Only info I've seen so far is event cinemas sold 41400 tickets for the midnights. Should be north of 600k from that chain alone. (Event /bcc own about 12% of the screens in Australia so...)
