10 hours ago, MinaTakla said:

Pets opened with 5.8m in Australia (with previews). This seems like a big opening. Can someone confirm how it compares to other animated films?

Pets opened with 4.7m (cume 7.3m) AUD.

for comparison:

zootopia 4.3m (4.7m cume) on its way to 28m.

Madagascar 2 opened to under 4m in sept 2012 on its way to 24m.

Been a while since we had a strong animated film open in September. Good opening should hold almost flat in the coming weeks thanks to holidays here. 30m is possible.

It does however face some competition in Petes dragon(next week) and more so from storks (2 weeks time)

sully is off to a strong start with 2.6m.

Lastly, bridget jones baby has so far made 2m from previews. Which isn't bad at all and hopefully a good sign for a strong ow next week.  Bridget jones edge of reason opened back in November 2004 to nearly 6m on its way to 18m. The original did 22m off a 4m ow (6m including previews). So the previews appear to be inline with previous entries.

I'm not sure how many sessions it had but that looks pretty terrible for Snowden.

Snowden is going to make less then The Beatles Live in Australia.  Storks has a fairly mediocre opening.

Update:

Miss Peregrine has opened strongly here (it's the equivalent of a 40m OW in the US).  Pets is continuing it's nice little run.  and it has one more strong hold before the end of the holidays (mostly across australia by then).  for comparison Zootopia in it's 4th weekend made 2.6m for a 19.3m total on it's way to 27.9m.  I'm thinking Pets will cross 30m here based upon that alone.  Bridget Jones has performed well and isn't far off matching Edge of Reason which made 18m here.
