When you look at the entire chart, EG's hold doesn't seem a bad one.

Dumbo and Terra Willy dropped 10% from Friday, Wonder Park dropped even more (-20%).

It looks like the more a movie aims at adults the more it increased yesterday (meaning the Juve-Inter match wasn't a big deal). EG is certainly closer to a family movie than to an existencial drama, so while it didn't decrease like all kids flicks, it got just a tiny increase (+2%).

The number is still more than 50% ahead of IW's after burning A LOT more demand.

Cinetel doesn't publish estimates but only real data. There are some small cinemas that aren't able to provide numbers in real time, but are added later. So the sum of the daily data, that are published for free only once, is always lower than the updated total.

Looks like Endgame really hit the ceiling, as it has been about flat for 3 days in a row.

People should keep into consideration that (if I'm not missing anything) no movie had a single day above 2.5M since Infinity War last year, and that movie only had one (its OD). EG had FIVE.

Monster weekend!

It's up 75.5% from the same weekend last year (which was already great due to the opening of IW). The great news is that 2019 is now on par with 2018, losing by a minuscule 0.05%.

 

Endgame surpassed every optimistic prediction, and shows that the market still has some potential. I don't think I could add anything to what has already been said: if we exclude the local comedies starring Checco Zalone, it destroyed (+67%) the previous record for OD  (held by HP7/2), destroyed the OW record:

 

1. Endgame 12.13

2. Avatar 9.65 (3-day)*

3. 50 Shades 8,49

4. Breaking Dawn – Part 2 8.28

 

Destroyed the 5-day opening record

 

1. Endgame 17.43

2. Harry Potter DH 2 10.54

3. Alice in Wonderland 10.51

4. Breaking Dawn – Part 2 10.45

 

It was also released in more than 1000 screens, an insane number (almost double the usual amount a wide release gets).

 

I don't know how high it can go. My guess is that starting from today it won't add much more than IW to its total, due to:

* the 3 days gap between Sunday and the 1st of May, which makes this Monday much closer to an average Monday than it was when IW was released

* IW's pattern: after its opening, it made just about the amount of money Ultron did - not totally sure on this one, though, as EG may be able to get more repeating views and more casual moviegoers than IW did

* bad weather not lasting long: part of EG's huge success (and of the amazing holds seen this weekend) is due to the AWFUL weather that has hit Italy through the week, but it's going to improve this week and become like a semi-summer the week after

 

The other movies:

Ma Cosa Ci Dice il Cervello managed an increase over last weekend, and has now definitely become a hit. Happy for Cortellesi.

Dumbo's hold, while much worse than the other two kids flicks, was good enough to make the 11M mark locked, and thus the #2 spot of the year; it still has a chance to become the third movie of the season with more than 2M admissions.

After just can't get a decent hold. Not like we're complaining. Gonna be the 2nd movie of the year with a sub-2x multiplier after a non-holiday OW above 3M (1st being Creed 2).

 

Out of the chart: Shazam! fell to #11, grossing 91K (for a better-than-expected 68% drop) for a 3.68M total; Hellboy collapsed with a drop slightly below 80%; Five Feet Apart fell apart, and is now out of the top 20 and extremely unlikely to pass the 5M mark (still a great success, though).

 

This week:

* Stan and Ollie

* Hotel Mumbai

* The Brink

* Non Sono un Assassino (= I'm not a murderer - it's a thriller so don't expect anything solid)

Bland - but movies will still fell hard due to the better weather and the end of the holidays.

I would wait till we see the second weekend. Because today is an inflated Monday, Tuesday will have an inflated evening because Wednesday is a holiday and on Thursday and Friday it should return to normal again.

What pepsa said. My projection now would be 3M from Tuesday+Wednesday and another 3M over the 4-day weekend (75% drop). Total after its 2nd weekend = 24.5M. Then great weather will kill it and make it finish around 28M.

 

Its goal is Bohemian Rhapsody's 28.9M finish. That movie was guaranteed to finish #1 of the season...until EG decided to get an OD above 5 millions. Taking the seasonal crown from it would be incredible.
