So JW did 225m in 2015 and JP in 2019 would do 625m?

Nobody knows but around $300m seems doable, since the last one made over $250m and as big as the last two sequels have been, the original was an even bigger deal back in the day.

The point was, China alone makes a huge difference, the orginal did nothing there. And then there are all the other markets. Just doing some quick and dirty adjusting while ignoring how profoundly international markets have expanded since then is frankly ridiculous.

It's also ridiculous to assume it would have done better now with the current exchange rates that suck for many countries. Point is one cannot pretend that 1B, 25 years ago is more impressive than 2.75b now.

Titanic's 2.187b 22 years ago? Definitely way more impressive.

Gone with the wind 400m, 80 years later? Definitely

Yeah but that's a good point 5B would never happen today which further makes my point. Initial run was outrageous and the follow up as impressive as well.

What? A movie the size of Jurassic Park would have definitelly done a hell of a lot more than what it did 25 years ago.

Would have done better than what Jurassic World done. And it's absolutely idiotic to pretend it would have done 625m

To say that Titanic would have made 5B if it's released in 2019 is the same as saying that GWTW would have made 1.8B domestic in 2019 or EG making 2B in 1997 with no buildup movies or like saying that Alice in wonderland would have made only 200M without 3D craze

All are stupid claims that makes no sense whatsoever and they are total hypothetical situation that have no facts or data to base on.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but after Endgame overtakes Avatar to become the highest grossing movie of all time, won't Avatar just take the record back sometime in 2021 or even next year as a pre-release hype for the sequel?

Yes, but your dates are wrong, Avatar 2 won't release until 2023 if everything goes to plan (that's a big if...) .  I expect the re-release of Avatar will eventually happen around 2026 as James Cameron finally finishes his 4D technology.  He could also do it the cheap way and go the 3DD road like he did for that Piranha movie.

By that time,  Avengers 5-6-7 will all have grossed between 5B$to 7B$.

Cameron fanboys should be thankful for Endgame. It has single-handedly kept this thread - for a movie that is still 2 and a half years away - relevant!

In all fairness this is true. Batman which is in On the Lot will come out before this. Given the 6 consecutive delays leaving this page on the main forum for a decade seems silly.

Weird that they gave leeway to the sequel to the highest grossing film of all time on a box office theory website

I mean can you even call a sequel? Hell at some point the delay becomes so long it's a spinoff.
