if we removed covid and cinemas were back to 100%, 6billies would be on the table easy.

High hopes for massive $10,000M /$10B where as a very very optimistic result of $5000M /$5B.

Anyone else worried that Avatar 2 might create a second pandemic by bringing so many people into croweded cinema rooms?

Might be but till then vaccination will control the flow of virus. In other words, no more CoVid-19

At some point I did speculate that if Jim pulls out all the stops and we see a true Jim WOM spell we could see a legit $16B WW.

The bottom line is this will be the first true mega-blockbuster since the pandemic began. It could be the movie that saves the theatrical experience. I do not know what its box office will ultimately be, but it will rival some of the highest grossing blockbusters in history.

Just checking in on this thread, anyone an idea when the anouncement of avatar 2 december 2023 will be? I am very hyped for the anouncement ^^

It hasn't moved...and there are absolutely no rumors as such right now.  It's dated for December 2022.

The current thread title is misleading.

I wonder how far along they are in post. This thing finished filming over a year ago.

As I've said above in this thread, "Post" is a relative term for Cameron and this long-term project.  Things aren't really "in post" -- they are always being made and constituted and re-constituted, sometimes live-on-set, sometimes by WETA in NZ, but always in direct consultation with James Cameron.  The capacity is now there in technological terms for them to essentially shoot live on set and simultaneously see an early rendering of their virtual environment.

Trust me when I say: The processes being developed and used for making these motion pictures come to life are advancing the process as they are shooting it, if that makes sense.  Cameron incorporates new tech as its being developed, and that's what has extended out the production timeline overall.  Yes, the so-called "principle photography" of Films 2 & 3 has been done for a while...but there appears to be a new kind of creative paradigm that Cameron is working with-- and the technology might be shifting the narrative possibilities, itself...

In that case, one can only hope that this movie really pushes the boundaries of visual effects above and beyond. I just can’t picture what that would look like.
