Well....Vin does say the magic words without really saying it and Jim confirms it, it sounds to me like Vin Diesel will play some kind of part in the sequels.

He won't be doing Shakespeare onstage anytime soon but he's a big personality/character that is very well known worldwide. All Cameron wants is to get the performance he needs for the specified role which is something he's very good at.
