We're very much in a situation akin to immediately prior to Titanic's release, or immediately prior to Avatar 2's release, where the full potential of the global box office is untapped.

The global box office market holds the potential for a film to gross far in excess of $3b — it would just take an Avatar-like or Titanic-like performance with huge, often record-breaking grosses in pretty much every market to realise that potential. No film since Avatar (and really, no other film in the history of cinema outside of Avatar and Titanic) has had that kind of global appeal where it resonates almost equally with people across all countries, cultures and languages.

There's no doubt in my mind that if Cameron delivers on Avatar 2 in the same way that he delivered on Titanic and Avatar, that Avatar 2 can gross well above $3b. The rational part of my brain is pushing back on $4b as that would be a Titanic-level performance, but it's Jim we're talking about here, so I'm not naive enough to say it's impossible, just very unlikely.

That would be nice but first what is the movie going to be called?? Let's start with the official title first.

Avatar ---------------------

Not sure about the name, but has Disney ever done a Superbowl teaser for a big movie? Did TFA or TLJ get a Superbowl teaser? They've done montages for Disney+ and maybe movies before, but not sure for a single movie.

I expect the full trailer to be out by the time Dr. Strange 2 hits, but I don't know if Disney has done some 30 second teaser for movies the Superbowl, especially considering NBC is charging some 6.5MM for 30 seconds this year.

The first Star Wars The Force Awakens teaser was released Nov 28/2014 - the movie was out on Dec 18/2015.

These are the Superbowl movie trailers from Feb 2020 before COVID messed everything up.

00:00 Black Widow
00:30 Fast and Furious 9
01:00 No Time To Die
01:30 Falcon and The Winter Soldier
02:00 Top Gun 2: Maverick
02:30 A Quiet Place 2
03:00 Minions 2: The Rise Of Gru
03:30 The SpongeBob Movie 2: Sponge On The Run
04:00 Sonic The Hedgehog
05:06 Mulan

wow I forgot so many movies had trailers. Wasted money. I wonder what trailers there'll be this year. Jurassic World 3 and Minions are the only sure bets.

If you were betting your house on it, what would the final boxoffice of Avatar 2 be?

Assuming an early china release, something like $2.5 bil

Without it $1.8 bil

If I was making the bet right now, then yea something like what Jonah said. Around $1.8B WW-C or $2.5B with China.
