It's actually easier "in this age" due to expanding markets and inflation. That applies to 3D as well as 2D movies. Still, a great total for a Batman movie.

A 2D movie hasn't been this big since ROTK, so it can't be all that easy.

Pirates 2. TDK isn't far behind, either.When most big blockbusters are in 3D of course it isn't easy to find one that isn't.I only had overseas numbers in mind when i wrote that, btw.

The moment they convert The Lord Of The Rings movies to 3D, it will become the highest grossing 2D movie WW. Nolan fans will celebrate this with burning of 3D movies.

The point is, like Elessar said, this era it's definitely easier to pass 600m OS, whether it's 2D or 3D. We dont have many 2D films cracking that number because obviously most of the major production were in 3D. Edited October 2, 2012 by vc2002

The point is the lack of 2D movies, so for a 2D movie to make a billion is quite a milestone.

So? It's always going to get easier anyway. 2D movies are at a disadvantage compared to 3D movies because they are less expensive and less common. Therefore it's always impressive to sea 2D movie make it to a billion, the last time it happened was four years ago, and the last time it was this big was 2003. Edited October 2, 2012 by lab276

What producer who is in his right mind and not opposed by a mighty director who thinks otherwise would go for 2D given the chance his movie can gross a billion with the love for 3D in exanding markets?
