Down just about 30% from TFA. Similar legs to that should get it just over 10M, which would be enough to get it into the top 10 all time here. We'll see how it goes.

Well, for Events Queen St and Manukau were open, but when I checked on a couple of sessions yesterday it wasn't particularly busy, so hopefully it'll pick up nicely today. I didn't think we'd get numbers today though, so that's a nice surprise.

Also Thor was definitively over JL this weekend by the looks of it. They said that last weekend, but the actuals came in a bit lower for Thor which put it a tad under.

Thor is also excruciatingly close to $7,000,000. If my math is right, it is currently sitting at $6,997,600.

It's passed $7M now.

$7,003,453 as per MPDA NZ. :hi5:

That should put TLJ just past Thor, but not in time to win the calendar year.

Correct.

Taika Waititi's Thor: Ragnarok has held off Star Wars to claim victory at the New Zealand box office for 2017.

Waititi's superhero flick made more money in New Zealand cinemas than any other film in the calendar year, according to the Motion Picture Distributors Association.

Thor: Ragnarok earned $7,027,051 in 2017. On New Year's Eve, Star Wars: The Last Jedi lagged half a million behind at $6,587,211.

Top 10 of the calendar year for 2017, as of 31 Dec, 2017. Painstakingly updated by yours truly.

Title Distributor Released Reported Top 20 Box Office

1 Moana Walt Disney 26/12/2016 $7,340,251
2 Thor: Ragnarok Walt Disney 26/10/2017 $7,027,051
3 Star Wars: The Last Jedi Walt Disney 14/12/2017 $6,587,211
4 Beauty and the Beast Walt Disney 30/03/2017 $6,456,334
5 Dunkirk Warner Bros 20/07/2017 $5,751,069
6 Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 Walt Disney 25/04/2017 $5,364,520
7 Despicable Me 3 Paramount 29/06/2017 $5,265,865
8 The Fate of the Furious Paramount 12/04/2017 $5,075,813
9 Wonder Woman Warner Bros 1/06/2017 $4,896,632
10 Lion Transmission 19/01/2017 $4,237,878

Disney taking the top 4 is kinda crazy. They almost got the top 5 if it weren't for FARRIER. I think Jumanji should have enough juice to sneak past Lion for that number 10 spot. Once all is said and done. TLJ has already passed Thor, so that has #1 of 2017 locked up for now but not for the calendar year.

The current order of 2017 releases, as of today is this:

Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Thor: Ragnarok

Beauty and the Beast

Dunkirk

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Despicable Me 3

The Fate of the Furious

Wonder Woman

Lion

Spider-Man: Homecoming

Like I said though, Jumanji will probably pass Lion and Spider-Man: Homecoming to get into the top 10 releases of the year.
