That;s normal or yuge drop? Amazing total as it has beaten IW already?

Bit of a tumble; it's a few point worse than IW's drop, but overall I'm pretty impressed considering how much demand it burned over the 5-day opening. And yes, the total is very impressive. Already in the top ten of all time and has a shot of entering the top five by this time next week. I can't see a situation in which it misses TFA so the question now is how close can it get to Avatar.

Lion King at Events Cinema Albany starting with a lot of sessions opening day, the number is 23, this is more than Far From Home, which has 14 at the moment and I think has added a session or two over the last week or so and has obviously been on sale much longer. Neither film has sold many tickets, which is the same as Toy Story 4 and even Endgame recently, I think more people are starting to wait to closer to the time to get tickets.

Had a quick look at Queen Street (one of the biggest in the country) and it has 23 sessions for TLK, 12 for FFH. This leads me to believe that Albany may be having strong sales recently for them to both be getting a similar amount of screenings.

My first time doing this so please take it easy, first of all up to 28 screenings which is a lot, hard to compare to midnight releases like SW and HP films that are popular over here as those are midnight releases. That being said this seems to be similar to the two most recent Avengers films although I don’t have numbers.

Sales seem pretty good and I’ll probably do this at 10pm on Tuesday night 12 hours before the first showings.

905 more tickets sold since Sunday

Still lots of room for walk ups but a nice increase of the last few days. I’m going to the 10am screening, so will let you know how much more it filled up and also audience response.

It’s my first time doing this but Albany is a decent amount of the NZ market (my guess is 5-10%) I’ve averaged the tickets down to $20 due to children and student prices. Already over $36,000 from opening day in Albany I think it will translate to an Opening Weekend of roughly $2.5m NZD/$1.7m USD. I’m probably very far off the mark, it will likely get easier to predict as I do more movies like this and work out a formula and get some good comps.

TLK was really good, not as good as the animated film but really beautiful and most ornate the voice actors did great. Forgot that school holidays are on at the moment, so that will help with early showing the next two days. Cinema was 80% full and most of the audience liked it, some laughs, lots of tears. The biggest pop though was actually the Frozen II trailer as there was so many kids in the showing they where yelling out Elsa, Anna , Frozen etc And I think most of them were already trying to convince parents/grandparents to take them. Angry Birds 2 also got a surprisingly decent reaction, Ugly dolls was not well received.

The school holidays will help night shows as well since kids don't have to worry about going to bed early, I'm looking at shows for a few cinemas and they're doing amazing. I just checked out Manukau and earlier sessions are close to selling out, and there's 5 sessions starting from 11pm all the way up to a midnight screening there so it looks like it's super popular out south. I'm still on the fence as to whether I'm going to see it but it's sure doing well here. I was surprised at it getting so many showings but I guess they knew what they were doing. 🤐

Yeah that’s a great point. Good to hear it’s not just Albany that’s going crazy for the film.

Thanks for the information, really surprised that Queen Street isn’t in the top three but Sylvia Park when I went to for Age of Ultron OW was packed so that comes as no surprise. Haven’t been to Manukau but obviously it is doing incredibly well.
