Turtles has opened well. I think it should hold on pretty well in the next few weeks. GotG just missing 4.2mil but finally passed Dragon 2. Lucy has done really well, also just missing 2mil this weekend. The Giver opened quite poorly but was expected.

Turtles opened in more screens, so it increased by 67%, should have a pretty great run. Step Up opened bigger than I thought. Lucy and Guardians still chugging along nicely. GotG should also beat Lego Movie next week to be 2nd in this years chart.

Strong opening for Maze Runner, opened higher than Divergent. Equalizer did pretty good considering it was like R18 I think. Planes and Boxtrolls, not the best. Also I got it wrong and GotG passed Lego Movie a while ago lol.

Wow. One of the strongest weekends in a while. The Maze Runner barely dropped and held on to 1st. Gone Girl opened very strongly for a R rated film. Dracula also with a decent start, though not the best for a big blockbuster. Turtles, Boxtrolls and Planes all increased due to start of school holidays. And for your GotG fix, it now nears 4.5mil with a great hold.

Great start for Interstellar, made just a bit more than Gravity. It will be interesting what happens next week as Gravity increased. Dead Lands, a NZ film doing okay, not the best. I thought it was a great film and more NZers should see it. Gone Girl has done well.

Kiwi box office raked in more than $193m

The New Zealand box office raked in more than $193 million in 2015 - a record for the movie industry - with five movies breaking the $6 million mark.

The overall box office figure was up 5.5 per cent from 2014's previous record of $183 million.

Five films broke the $6 million revenue mark - with Star Wars: The Force Awakens topping the list, bringing in an impressive $9,154,322 despite only being released in the third week of December, according to figures from the Motion Picture Distributors' Association.

Awakens was followed by Fast & Furious 7, with just over $8 million, and Jurassic World at just under $8 million. Avengers: Age of Ultron ($6.8 million) and Minions ($6 million), complete the top five grossing films of the year...

For anyone interested, Hunt for the Wilderpeople has just passed 10 weeks in the top 5 at the NZ box office, and has racked up a pretty impressive total of $7.5 million USD so far. That's the highest for any local NZ film and higher than a lot of blockbusters. I looked back on BOM and only 5 films are higher. This is Taika Waititi's latest project, and his next is Thor: Ragnorak so it should be interesting to see how that fairs here in NZ. Wilderpeople is set to release on June 24th in the States, but I have no idea how wide a release it's going to have. Taika's other film, Boy, only opened in something like 18 so I'm interested to see if this gets a wider release.

SW7 almost reached $10m In terms of population it's like doing 800m in the US, excellent

Hunt for the Wilderpeople is pretty much done at this stage but it has had a pretty impressive run. 14 weeks in the top 10 for a total of 8.6 million and according to my math that is equivalent to around 490 million in the USA. For reference, last year total box office for NZ was 193 million vs 11 billion for the states. Adding on 7.9 million from Australia and just under 3.9 million in America gives a total of 20.5 million. Considering its budget of 3 million, Wilderpeople has been a huge success.

As did Australia, NZ will push Suicide Squad above BvS shortly. In the end it should also pass Deadpool to become the highest grossing Comic-Book Adaption of the year.
