Regarding the IMAX preview they've limited seats to that one, the first three rows have been blocked out, most likely due to the fact it's a Mega ticket screening with a funko pop. I had a look at it just after they'd done it and iirc there's 301 seats available.

Thanks have edited it both here and in the WW84 thread thought it was a little strange that it all the front rows were full but just assumed it was a mass booking or something that limit makes a lot of sense.

Slower day today but the early VMAX session is getting very close to capacity.

Boxing Day still going strong (don’t know how much the holiday is inflating things) it’s trending ahead of films like Birds of Prey, IT Chapter 2, Hobbs and Shaw and Joker but won’t be aa big as TROS, TLK or Frozen 2 release.

The smaller VMAX has been added to Albany for the early screening is a great sign that demand is there. Albany Boxing Day and the Queen Street IMAX also had good days.

Looks like the presales for Newmarket are also doing well and they've added another 7pm preview. I always felt bad for that cinema, it was delayed from its early-December opening so it missed out on that sweet SW money, then it didn't open until literally a week before we went into lockdown. 🤣 I didn't keep an eye on it for Tenet screenings since I mainly focused on IMAX for that, but it's probably like, thank god we have something to show over the summer holidays. Talk about trying to launch a fancy new cinema at the worst possible time, it's almost impressive how terrible its opening circumstances were.

Slower day for the IMAX early showing, the new early VMAX showing is clearly cannibalising the old one but the new one is selling very well. As for Boxing Day sales most came from Gold Class which is good revenue wise but some of the VMAX numbers particularly in early sessions are starting to look average.

Apart from the disappearance of the Queen Street IMAX early show the early VMAX shows had another very solid day and the Boxing Day sales were again pretty slow.

Umm wtf? Looks like they've removed the Mega screenings as I can't see them on the promotions page on the site, which is completely bizarre. I guess the only way to know what happened is if someone who had one booked mentions it somewhere or asking the Queen Street branch directly, but I'm seriously confused. It's legit two days away and they just went and cancelled them?

Yeah it is incredibly perplexing, its not like they weren't selling well either.

Exactly. Definitely something strange is going on, on this page https://www.eventcinemas.co.nz/Promotions/WonderWoman1984TOSN?fbclid=IwAR359ydX225eBZ6UKt3L0OWeRvgAwvSD3dSQP25kjL4Gsiw9KB6BCUiRQbs#cinemas=504,520,502,512,506,505 they have the screening still referred to in the yellow box and the one at the Embassy is still active.

This is gonna bug me, lol.

Early VMAX is very close to capacity which is excellent too bad about the IMAX screening Queen Street as it was heading in the same direction. Boxing Day got a boost from 4 regular screenings being added but apart from that another slower day hopefully it picks up after the early screenings come and go.

What happened to the IMAX screen?

Don't think anything happened to the screen itself as they are still selling IMAX tickets for Boxing Day. However for some reason the preview screening on the 23rd seems to be cancelled, I don't know why but it wasn't there when I went to check yesterday morning.

Phenomenal days sales that the last update. I won’t do any weekend $$$ comps as its a 2 day vs usual 3-4 day, its on Boxing Day and the HBO MAX release may cause some higher piracy levels than normal, but here are some comparisons to some successful films 12 hours before release in terms of tickets sold:

TLK - Total 1831/5554

Joker - Total 446/2756

Frozen II - Total 670/2572

TROS - Total  2002/5606

As you can see WW84 holds its own pretty well although it is boosted by being on a holiday which is the same for TLK if I remember correctly. Also similar ticket availability as Frozen II and Joker is a good sign in my opinion.

Will be interesting to see how high it can go from here being that the first made $4.9M and this still has the rest of January for school holidays. Of course the time of year helps vs June but it's encouraging to see movies do well here and hopefully it translates to the rest of the world once things start going on that front again.
