MysteryMovieMogul
So, Wish just pooped up on Disney+ and Disney's in the same position as they were in the Chicken Little/Meet the Robinsons period. This film is so confused, and needed to be more musical theater and less pop.

Chicken Little is just outright unwatchable

And, yeah,Iger's statment was classic PR vague. I am nos sure money is the only thing the people who run Disney care about...I am pretty sure they love being in the entertaiment business adn want to turn out a good product...but making a profit for the shareholders is why Disney.....or any studio..hell, any busines....i th the main reason they exist. And, since I am not a hardcroe Socialist, I see nothing automatically evil in that.

dudalb
James Cameron says he wants t produce a remake of the Fox classic Sci Fi movie "Fantastic VOyage" and is talking with Del Toro to direct. SInce Fox owns the property, and Cameron has a contract with Disney, I presume this would be a Disney release..though maybe under the Fox Label. I find the timing interesting.....maybe it's Iger saying "I am working on some big new projects".
ZeroHour
This is James Cameron. Saying he's going to do something soon could mean 10 years from now.

As a minority I can say many fellow minorities find Disney style boring now. Yeah this. The biggest so called "woke" flops like The Marvels, Strange World etc. bombed because they were so neutered, inoffensive and mediocre. In an attempt to please 'both sides', Disney usually ends up pleasing no one and puts out cynical, executive note ridden empty fluff. The biggest successes with diverse leads have actually been politically edgy and had a lot to say like Black Panther and now X-Men 97. Even Barbie was far more politically inclined than majority of the fare Disney puts out with minority and women leads.

Curiously, I think the anti-woke crew were more scandalous for The Little Mermaid than Black Panther or X-Men 97. So, I don't think the anti-woke crew care so much about political edge. The anti-woke crew seems to be pretty shallow. They are more horrified by a change in race or gender than by a story dealing with political issues. I think such outrage is fringe but when the quality of such a film is subpar then haters can easily say a film flopped cause it 'woke' As the user said Black Panther was likely one of the most direct in your face major blockbusters about race and it was very popular even amoung my moderate conservative friends. cause it was a good film.
SaltyPistola
Honestly I think Disney is good position for a comeback if they actually make some good shit. They've been slipping for a while but I don't think anyone has been able to properly fill the 4 quadrant all ages AAAA blockbuster hole they've left open. I'd say barbie was at that level but it feels more like an outlier. Elemental and TLM were pretty middling movies that had even more middling box office performances, but they still showed that the audience is there and waiting. They are not going to comeback anytime soon, if anything they seem to be doubling down on hiring activists and people with little to no experience with the franchises they bought to handle the projects, so it's crystal clear they will continue to alienate more and more fans. I don´t see any studio capable of filling these shoes either, WB is close but they are very weak in the CBM genre (Although it consumed itself with too many movies in the pandemic). Universal is also strong but they seem to rely more on luck than anything else. Edited April 9 by Belakor

What activists have they hired recently? Or ever hired for that matter? What "franchise experience" is needed for *let me check* The Lion King 0 and Frozen 3? I don't think you have to stress bro I think your Moana lore will be respected.
