It's not going to bring any profit for the studio. That says more than enough.

What madness is this? It's going to make 500m and change off a 160m production budget, not counting any other revenue streams plus it's made the franchise viable again.Or do you consider ST09 to have tanked too? Edited by Telemachos

GODZILLA's not tanking. Jesus, don't be ridiculous. The legs aren't going to be good, but it had such a massive opening it's going to be fine.

That's not what I meant by tanking  -_- .

I'm not a Rugrats fan.

Simpsons and Godzilla both did not tank.

They were extremely popular and with great marketing managed to bring in their fan-bases in the ow. Should not be penalized for that.

Godzilla will end at 525m+ on 160m budget + marketing. That makes it a huge hit and going to make a lot of profit.

A LOT OF PROFIT?

It's going to need 320M (normally) for it to cut even. Add the marketing which is probably around the 75-100M, it'll need 520M JUST TO CUT EVEN.

If you consider 2.5M a LOT OF PROFIT, you're not taking this seriously.

I honestly think the only reason they made a sequel to that movie was because it was received very very well. If it wasn't for that, it would've been the only Star Trek movie. They had very high expectations for that second movie and after it disappointed, they didn't exactly hurry to film a sequel.

Do you have no concept of ancillary revenue streams and rejuvenating an existing library of titles?

Anyone else think that The Host would make a good Godzilla movie? There are definitely a few similar themes in there.

The crappy Stephanie Meyer book? I watched that for free and still wanted my money back - "90 minutes of people starting at things - The Movie"

Fine, let's say that cut even too, adding the marketing.

It's one thing when a movie opens to 169M and is the LAST (eight, at the same time) movie of a popular franchise. Godzilla isn't a sequel nor did It open that high. Well, The Simpsons cost 90M less to be made and still grossed more than Godzilla's total gross, probably. So, The Simpsons did TANK, technically, but at least it made its budget back in the first three days, unlike Godzilla.

DH ll was heavily frontloaded and so was GODZILLA. But both did not tank. Plus GODZILLA is making money. Lots of it.

DH2 finished with $1.341b. And it had a 5-day worldwide opening weekend of $483.5m...DH2 made A LOT more money than Godzilla ever will.

according to your calculations did it not cut even (+2.5m) with the theatrical release itself?
